I guess 1 shot never goes bad. Found a 15 yr old can in the basement and got a great idea from the picture of my cat walking on the hood. Too bad I couldn’t find my old brushes and too bad I found my wife’s. Pro tip, don’t load your wife’s good art brushes with enamel and let her catch em soaking in paint thinner you poured in a bowl that may or may not have been retrieved from the cupboard. Anywhoo, felt good to load up a brush after umpteen years and paint something cool (subjective). The cat I painted is an old Disney cartoon from 1929 called Skeleton Dance….so for all you snots that said my car is straying from being period correct, this is for you. Wanna do some lettering but man, it’s been a long time and I wasn’t all that good at it back then. 19BAE56D-722D-4F71-8204-576ECEBB07FF.jpeg ACA19F2E-B449-408E-984E-E0D18B589020.jpeg 4F1D714C-F56E-48BE-B67A-A1CEC1B31812.jpeg 6CE7AAAC-BF50-4FC7-97D2-F044844D63C9.jpeg 2FC53DBE-A58E-4671-838D-FBA7F58113A4.jpeg

More things a happinen. Got my downdraft intake today so of course I had to start on the lakester pipes as well. It’s starting to look a bit faster. Never mind the booger looking welds on the elbow…building up weld to smooth out that junction. The Hell’s Gate 4” cones are a bit crude. The Strom 97 should be here tomorrow. Tried to hold out for an 81 but I found one of those new 97 carbs for a price I couldn’t pass up. Oh yeah, found out where the torrent of an oil leak was coming from. I forgot there was an oil passage set screw behind the motor. Guess I didn’t put enough goop on it the first time. It was a royal pain getting it out, cleaned, gooped and put back in but I did it. Can’t wait to get this thing running again and also to see if the leak has been corrected. Besides nearly slicing the tip of my finger off removing the old copper manifold gaskets, tonight’s been a good night.

Anyone got good intel on a baffle for the 4” cone? This thing is gonna be ridiculous loud! T-minus 90 minute gasket until first run. Throttle linkage geometry was fun, thank God for CAD! C9C04866-BC54-4756-BE8B-E62401419A41.jpeg 9E011C81-2437-4C71-9DE4-2DFC9198E44C.jpeg

She runs, sounds bitchn to boot! 5 minutes after getting it started, we got our first snow of the year….damn, just installed the windshield glass for the colder weather too.

    Issues:
    1. Blowing out some black smoke, seems rich
    2. Still leaking oil from that set screw
    3. Throttle linkage springs compress under load
    4. Not returning to full idle

    Solutions:
    1. Not sure, new to Stromberg re-jetting and power valve stuff
    2. Pull my damn hair out
    3. New short throttle linkage with modern ball sockets
    4. Additional throttle return spring if the new linkage doesn’t sort out the problem

    carb suggestions welcomed

Do you have a bushing or better yet a bearing in the linkage pivot?
    Sounds great!

Good eye. Got a flange bearing coming in the mail that I’ll drill for and install later. Sounds good, runs like crap.

You'll figure it out. The carb may need a massage.

Matt at gear drive had components for baffles that’s were I got mine. He also had the correct looking throttle arm as well. He’s still doing some stuff you can get ahold of him at lakeheaders.com. 651-458-8075
As far as you carb goes I had a brand new 97 on my banger and had challenges to get it to run right main jets were way to big and was blowing gas out the exhaust. Clive did help me and it got better but still not right put my old 97 back on just to drive this summer. I need to spend some time tuning.

Someone else wasn't as happy with your find as you? My wife allowed Triumphs & BSAs because she knew the only way I'd get hurt was if the wrench slipped.

You could park them close together and sleep under a tarp stretched between them.

All my tarps have oil, grime and paint on them. Found a nice park bench with a water fountain and a place to park the car under a tree

You know, a cheap tarp under the blast area makes cleanup a lot easier...;)

The second go around blasting the motor a tarp was used. So much easier.

Yeah, when I tried out the blaster connection for my power washer in front of my shop I forgot that it would someday dry out and leave sand to blow everywhere. :(

Guess it’s been a damn long while since giving an update. Winter is here with her panties all in a wad and cold as a witches, well, you know. Pulled the car out today to dust off the cobwebs, she ran ok, still needs some tuning love. Got sick of the damn oil leak from the rear oil galley so I busted out the hand files and went to town on a 1/2-13 x 3” bolt, whittling down to just the right size. No leaks!

DMV update, still at it. About 90% of the way through obtaining a new title. I’d rather have a kidney stone and new kid at 40 rather than traversing this process again. No matter what, they’re gonna desecrate my car with a new vin plate, no way around it.

Itching for paint and interior. 697A73B5-B83A-4BEA-8A50-2464287BAE24.jpeg 20011D61-0A65-4569-B580-C11F5783B02A.jpeg
