So I was telling my dad how my car did at the last Hillclimb, I advanced the distributor curve 3° in the pitts trackside, and got 7 mph more. He said to me “you need a distributor machine” I replied, yeah I remember that Sun machine and analyzing stuff you used to have and sold in the 90s, I wish you still had that. And my dad said well I’ve got an old distributor machine back in the storage trailer, you should dig it out.
A little detailing and inspection of the drive, next week. It does spin under its own power and the Vac pump works. I have not tested the strobe light inside the degree ring.
I have an old Allen that I bought 25 years ago. When I first got it I played around with it and then it has mostly sat. I dragged it out not to long ago to start to clean it up and check it out. When I opened up the back I found that most of the wiring is starting to fall apart and the capacitors inside are suspect. Doing some research I decided I should repair all that and replace the capacitors before turning it on. If not you risk damaging the tube and neon light system and those parts are hard to come by. So I set it aside and in the process of getting replacement parts and some wire to redo everything inside.
Thank You that is good to know, I will be careful. My father did not know if the tester works, but he never pays much for anything............ I may be disappointed.
From previous usage, I have looked for one that I could get 'reasonably'. (consciously looked for 50 years or so...LOL) Great tool for our use of conventional ignition systems...but I've always been able to 'wing' it...
Weidenhoff was the original Snap-on line of test equipment. Competed with Sun and to a lesser degree Allen until Snap-on bought Sun.
