OK this is completely off topic. Recently I dug out my old 33 lps. I've got all my old stero equipment in the garage. I'm having a ball going thru them & comparing the difference in sound. Not to mention listening to some cool old music.Just curious if any of you guys have gotten yours out.
Just got my tuner repaired ... it's hooked to 4 gigantic late '60s speakers. Listening to The Flock, Electric Flag, Big Brother, Shuggy Otis ....
Never put them away.....AR and Dual turntables, Macintosh and Marantz 2270 recievers, 2 Wharfdales W90's and 4 Dynaco A25's.
Wise move.....and you did keep em, which most folks didn't and could kick themselves. Vintage audio is big bucks now days.
I have a bunch of 8 tracks i dig out once and a while, wish i had a good stereo to play them, they all seem to drag.Have some cassettes i listen to also. The old stuff sounds so much better, even with the static and cracks. harvey
When a relative died 30 years ago my parents ended up with a 1966 Magnavox AM/FM record changer, an early solid state model. This was back in the era when TVs and Stereos were furniture. Weighs a couple hundred pounds and ornate wood. Couldn't give them away for quite a while, now the hipsters like them, or millenials, or who knows. Has a Collaro record changer, can stack up to ten (10) LP so get some extended listening. Also plays 16 & 45 RPM. Even have the satellite extension speaker. Play some LPs with it once in a while. I recapped the power supply, the switches and volume controls don't respond well to cleaning, they are pretty scratchy no matter what.
Now here's a man who knows good music when he hears it! I was listening to Shuggie this morning and went through my Electric Flag collection a few days ago. I dig The Flock's early 45s, I couldn't get into their psychedelic stuff. Fortunately, they were a relatively local band so I got to see them on more than a few occasions. Back to the question. I sold off most of my LPs, many I should have kept for the artwork, replaced by cds. I have the equipment but seem to lack the space to set it up. I realize many people feel they prefer the sound of vinyl but I can do without warpage, scratches and skipping. I've got a grandson, though, that haunts used record stores.
I've got a shit load of cassettes. Been buying them up at garage sales for about .25 a piece for years.
No one's mentioned 4 tracks yet. I had a pal who swore they were going to be the wave of the future (1968). When I tried to get rid of my 8 tracks in the '70s I damn near had to beg someone to just take them. I didn't want to throw them in the trash and I was interested in the new wave of the future, the cassette tape. Now I'm finding my cds have become old hat.
