Ok, can anyone clearly define what a "bobber truck" actually is ???? As far as I know, the term bobber was used for early Harleys with the front fender removed, the rear fender shortened (or "bobbed"), and all unneccesary shit removed. Would a more apt description of what we are talking about here be "fenderless hot rod pickup"? Subjective, I know, but I am all ears if someone here actually knows......................:confused::confused:

  2. Yes, the term was co-opted from the motorcycle world and applied in the 90's when Rudy made his creation from a LATE 30's cab. That was a new paradigm.

Olden days fenderless early 30's pickups are a different thing.

  3. I’ll try.
It’s associated with no fenders, truck cab with a shortened bed. It’s a modern term for that style truck. However it seems there are lots of vintage trucks that fit that. During this threads extensive research, it looks like there are a lot of pre 35 trucks built that fit the definition. Seems like a small number of post 34 trucks were also built. Those are hot rods but just like RR it seams it can get confused with pre65 builds.

Two replies...........two differing opinions. I'm not out here to call one or the other "right". Just wanted to highlight the folly of debating and trying to compartmentalize these builds when there is such a diverse range of both styles and perceptions.

Are these both "bobber trucks" ????? Maybe it is more a case of the term "bobber" being irrelevant and offensive around here, and not so much about cool trucks.o_O

  5. The top truck looks like a hot rod and can also be associated with the more modern term, bobber by some.

The bottom truck (according to research here) is a bobber. The “it takes more than a couple examples to be traditional” won’t call it a hot rod.

    I like em both

I like 'em both too, and would not apply the word "bobber" to either. Like I am saying, it is more likely the term that creates debate. If the build is cool it speaks for itself, without the need for people to put their own tag on it.....:)

Here is my take on it.
(1). In my opinion, the later the year, the harder it is to go fenderless and have it look right. Although some manage it extremely well, a lot miss the mark.
    (2) The term "bobber" should probably best be left to the early fenderless Harleys and the gal @alanp561 knew all those years ago.......................
    Your results may vary.

  8. Just search “bobber” here.
    Very interesting.
I could care 2 craps less whatever ya call em.
I’d love to build something like either one

I’m the furthest from anyone that would get wadded up about seeing a build thread on either one. I’m just figuring out this crap myself. Apparently we have folks that struggle with 4 doors no natter how many were used “back in the day”.
This has been a fun topic anyway.
I didn’t know guys built gassers out of big ole heavy full size cars until this thread happened.
    Learnin is fun

That's what I have garnered from the discussion but I'm still at a loss why something that has been done for decades wouldn't be welcomed here.

  11. Well, that’s up to the boss. However it seems we found at least 3 post 34 examples. However, the OPs question of post war truck versions seem elusive if any.

  12. I knew a girl once that was a bobber......................

Too much? HAMB circa 2002 ;)

Amazing coincidence that you guys knew the same girl. I think I knew her too..............:D
It seems that type of bobber was traditional.

  14. I had a 51f1 cab. Mocked it up. It’s way too wide to suit what I think is pleasing to my eyes.
The 37 cab I had looked much better.
I’ve seen a couple of narrowed and sectioned post war cabs look ok.
But I like crap like busses and step vans.
    So what do I know.

That's not an insult by the way. I like people who can operate outside the box.

  24. I don’t like pink ice cream
Neapolitan ice cream is a scam to force people to buy punk ice cream.

  27. House fact: more strawberry is left in the tub after people serve themselves than the other two. Validated by university research.
As a youngin, when my parents would dole out the icecream and if it happened to be neapolitan, I would mix it all up to avoid the pink concentration.;)
