I saw the following pictures on FB. Rumor has it is a a 60s survivor. I was wondering if any one had any background information. The design is a little bit over the top but it looks like the builder had some metal skills.

    Wow! Talk about different!!!

  3. WOW, they just about threw everything at that Merc. '55 Chevy grill, bumper and parking lights, '57 headlights and fender ornaments.

  4. Looks like '58 Ford Custom 300(?) side trim.

It's very interesting, if it is a survivor I wonder why it only has side trim on the one side, and why the paint seems to be disturbed around the Buick portholes added to both fenders. I'd also like to know what the little rectangular emblems say on the front fenders, they don't look very 60's to me but too hard to tell.

  7. My question is why would anyone have let it survive? It really should have been put out of our misery.

To me "skills" are when you improve something or simply do things right the first time. IMO that doesn't apply here.

The right side port holes are freshly welded in. Maybe he is building a points per modification car. He's definitely smoking something different than the rest of us.

Define improve? I understand the doing things right but improving something can be subjective. I’ve seen lots of very skilled people build quality stuff that I don’t feel they improved.

I think it's a great custom. Most of the members (including me), would never have the imagination to modify a car so much. At least he tried!!

  15. I think customs are also subjective but like you I appreciate the skill involved as well as the vision.

The builder certainly had skills. But this is a case of "just because you can, doesn't mean you should!".

What he really wanted was a 58 Buick.

I appreciate the feedback. Hopefully we will have some one that recognizes the Merc. It would be kool to own because it is an old build. The stance really helps and a quick photoshop.

It didn't survive. It was murdered a long time ago.

  27. .....or drove through the salvage yard and took a piece here and a piece there. Grab that trim, looks like it would fit, somewhere:rolleyes:
