My ‘58 Parisienne has a cable operated floor shifter in it and what looks like a Gen 2 Camaro/Firebird shifter knob on it. I’m hoping there is a more traditional looking shifter knob I can replace the existing one with? Maybe more in line with a C3 Corvette type shifter knob? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I took a similar GM shifter, made a long tube out of stainless for it, and put a large dice (die ?) on top of it, using simple tools. Even used a piece of thick plastic inside the tube, and made a button for one of the dice holes, to keep the lock out device.
I cut off the end of an old roller camshaft, drilled and tapped it to use as a shifter handle. I'm not sure you'd call it traditional, or anything else for that matter ! The imagination is a great thing. Mike
You may be able to adapt a Lokar shifter knob to it. The issue you have is the detention in the shifter that requires the button to be pushed to move the lever. Lokar sells a setup that lets you screw any knob to it and push the entire knob down to release the detent for changing gears. You may want to look into that.
Thanks for the replies. Lots of options. I'm leaning to see if I can thread the outside of the shaft with a die, and make a shifter knob. I'll post an update with the final solution.
70's F body cars (camsros and fire chickens) are some of the best supported cars in the aftermarket. There are hundreds of shift knobs made to fit that auto shifter.
Search your local craigslist or facebook for someone selling horse harness hames. A lot of them have brass knobs which polish up real nice. Heck, you can even cut the strap loops off the steel "S" and use it for a shifter handle. The steel "S" has a very nice shape to it.

Not a lot is going to change on it……. but I do have a replacement shifter knob ordered that is much more period correct.
You can get one of these adapters that are made for automatic shift levers. The inner piece clamps onto the 'stick' with set screws and the outer piece rests on the 'reverse detent'. So the knob-of-your-choice simply screws onto the adapter and you depress the whole pumpkin to release the shifter for the forward gears. The threaded stud on the adapter is 16mm but there are a ton of choices in that size available. However, if you have your heart set on a particular survivor knob, send it to me and I'll put a new insert in it to fit the adapter. Just pay me for the return shipping. It's also simple to remove the adapter and revert back to original. I've done the knob modification a hundred or more times. It takes me just a couple of minutes.
