I'm 83 and figured I better get this project wrapped up. For all of you that had something to say about Last Refuge here is one. LR Cabrio body, custom bed and flooring, custom suspension, Dodge 270 Hemi , 833 tranny, Winters rear end. I will post pics for opinion on with or without top (already made ). Any questions email me, I work better there.
83 and building a cramped, loud, hot roadster pickup? You Sir are a hero. Keep fighting the good fight!
Very nice work,,,, you should be proud of that indeed ! Also,,,,I love that old Hemi,,,,,and the 833,,,,,,,you did great work on that as well ! I just noticed,,,,,a Mopar orange box on the firewall,,,,,,I guess you are a Mopar man . I would have had to use an 8 3/4 as well,,,,,but,,that’s just me ,,,LoL . Tommy
Looks fantastic! A plus is that all the hard work is done. Make a checklist and start working it down so you can drive that baby!
You are never too old to turn a wrench, especially as well as you do as shown in the photos. You are an inspiration for me to get off my boney lazy 76 yr. old ass and go out to the garage and do something.
Just getting all the misc mechanical done , just finished the windshield wiper install(real pain in the ass) just got another Cardio Version for heart irregularity, this winter will be spent wiring. Also bought OT Karmann Ghia that I plan to put a Subaru engine in.
Just so you know, the doors are stretched 3 1/2" giving a dash to rear of cab 42" . Lot of room in thiscar
I cant find receipt for the wiper kit but they are on ebay for $200-250 the motor mounted in the center was so difficult because I had to bend a s/s tube to line up. I also silver brazed the tube to the motor base to keep it in place. Looks like they may have some prebent models available. If not that is the difficult part. I have very little room under dash. Later models a lot more room
Thanks for the info and tip. You mentioned that later models had a lot more room. Are you talking about later bodies built by Last Refuge? If so, how do you tell which you have? Sounds like Last Refuge took more than the general specs for the body from Ford who was notorious for using up leftover parts and also fixing design problems on the fly. I've been told Last Refuge made 309 of the 29 roadster pickup bodies with roll up windows but I only know of yours and the one I'm getting tomorrow morning... I hope!! Two ain't exactly 309. I hadn't seen or heard of them before I stumbled across mine in the classifieds here on the HAMB. I didn't know such a body ever existed but I stay in the garage a lot. I gotta say you are doing a great job on your car.
They are still advertising the long rpu body with windup windows. http://www.lastrefugehotrod.com/index.html check out the print manuals button!
I meant later model cars in general like 40's and 50's. I admit Norbert was a real problem for me. I may have gotten one of the few complete packages he sells. I have heard from others that don't have complete cars and are still owed money. The irony of it is I was going to cancel the order after waiting two years and that day Norbert called and said he was going to be in the area to drop off my car and then on to Brookville to pick p some things he buys from them, probably cowls. I too had never heard of him but the roadster with roll up windows intrigued me. The bed parts I got from him didn't make any sense so we had to fabricate a new one. Thats when I got the idea to weld the bed to the body. I love the way it looks and I think very unique
