I have been working on the accessories. Fuel pump, shields, and starter are complete and ready to go! Generator is cleaned, painted and ready to assemble! Working on fuel lines and distributor!

Retirement is great isn’t it? Certainly better now that the house is done.
What fan are you going to use, diameter and number of blades?

Ellie is doing great, we think she appreciates being saved. A neighbor found her in town hiding under an abandoned building. Sleeps all night and loves to play!

 

You bet, I love retirement, no dead lines to hang over my head. Well a few honeydews, but nothing I can’t handle! I have an old steel 6 blade fan, 15” diameter, I decided to try first!

 

Learned a hard lesson yesterday, tried to install the 57 Chevy starter I rebuilt and tested! When I put it in and installed the first of three attach bolts, something felt wrong. The GM crate 350 has provisions for a dipstick on both sides. That would not let the stater bolt up to the bell housing flange! Crap, also found out my headers wouldn’t clear it either! So I ordered a new high torque mini starter from Speedway Motors! Does anybody need a fresh rebuilt starter, nicely painted and bench tested! Make me a reasonable offer and it’s yours!

There are times when!!!!!!!!! But then you change directions and go for it!! Mini starter will fit plus the one I ordered is clockable just in case!! Both problems solved!

Working on the distributor and fuel system. New starter arrives Monday. Getting closer to running every day. Ellie the cat is doing great, she likes people and stays close. So far so good!

 

Installed the new mini starter. Loads of room. Had to modify the bell housing dust shields and rivet both pieces together. Goes on as one unit, worked great! Every thing is bolted in, all clearances are good! Need to finish the fuel line and mount the generator. Waiting on parts for the distributor, then it’s the carb!! Soon!!!!

 

Well, I have been working on all the accessories, lines, and mounts. So far, so good! No major issues!! It just amazes me how each part needs to be tweaked just to fit. Oh well, guess that’s the definition of Hot Rodding!!

 

Better watch your battery charging with that huge generator pulley. Sometimes it will not be charging at idle and low speed.

 

Yeah, I was looking at that. I can get a smaller pulley to help that!! Might have no choice!! Thanks

 

Well it can be "controlled" had a big one on an OT 5.0 and just watched the voltage gauge and raised the idle speed with the pedal while at stop lights.

 

We think alike, voltmeter is the only way to go. Plus being a stick car with a thumpr cam, I can bump the idle a bit, if needed. But I do like the look!!

 

Time for the carb! Disassemble, then to the glass beader! Seems the previous owner tried to paint the main body! After several hours in the beader, and a lot of lacquer thinner thru my hvlp spray gun and then 100 psi blow off and dry! Time to assemble. The beader made it look better! I priced sending it to Holley to re coat, not in the budget. So guess we will see how it goes! Might paint a few steel parts and see how the other pieces fair in use! Any ideas would be appreciated!!

I'm sure the price has gone up considerably but the OEM 327/350 hp carb for my Nova was completely restored by Holleys' custom shop, a few misc. missing parts were fitted then the body was dichromate coated and test run in the late eighties.
Sure like the coupe and that you are doing many of the things yourself (the old fashioned way).
I especially like that the B/W Super T-10 is being used, hot rods should have three pedals!
By the way, how are things in your new digs?

 

Thanks! I love to do all my own work! I just hate paying for someone else’s education!! And I am a little worried about blast media too! Bought a set of tiny brushes and I probe all passages with .020 stainless safety wire while blowing air through the port! Time will tell! Watched some YouTube videos about painting it and decided that’s not for me! New digs
projects were on hold, mostly because we were burnt out, plus we helped a bunch of neighbors on their stuff, we both had to learn to say no!! Don’t get me wrong , I love it here, nice people with good values, friendship is still possible. I also tweaked my right knee, had x rays and it’s degeneration from age and use, probably the road to knee replacement, not too fond of that thought! I figure I will fire her up in a few weeks! Hope all goes as planned! I will post the results, good or bad!

 

Now I have a silver Holley! Guess it will just have to do. Time to work on the breather system!

I see you are using the new clear ARP intake bolts. I always have trouble torquing them down

 

Yeah, no, the lifters , pushrods and rocker arms go in soon! Cam is coated with break in oil. So I will dip the lifters , install them add pushrods and rockers. Lifter are dry, makes setting the valves a breeze!! Good eye!! Wasn’t sure how long it would sit before initial fire up!

 

Probably a little too late now, but you can get this stuff called alodine and dip your carb in it. It will take a few dippings to get the gold color, and you absolutely wanna wear gloves and keep it in a safe place, but I dipped my 2 Jets in it years ago after being blasted, and they came out decent. Lemme see if I can find a picture.

 

I remember using that stuff in aviation years ago! I like the look too. Next time I pull it apart I will get some! Many thanks! Gloves required!!!

 

Got some time, worked on the gauge panel and gauge install. Got out my old sheet metal tools and away I went! Cut holes, fit panel, drilled, dimpled for flush mount and it was a blast!! Plus it went well!!

 

It even fits!!
