Art & Inspiration Car Show Music-What Are Your Top 5 Songs?

It seems like every local car show features the same old tired song playlist of Doo Wop or Beach Boys tunes. What are your top 5 songs that you would like to hear at an event?

 

None would be good.

 

Silence.

 

I'd like to hear that the obnoxiously loud sound system wouldn't be there.

Absolutely agree! By "tired" I meant the songs that you hear at every event. There are a LOT of really good "pre '65" songs that you seldom hear. Those are the ones that this thread is seeking. Thanks for your support.

 

Most P A systems @ car showes are to loud. If you park to close to a speaker you can't carry on a conversation..............

 

Doo Woo and Beach Boys....

 

No poodle skirt garbage
No shows play Gene Vincent or Muddy Waters.
Most shows sound like a Frankie Avalon movie.

 

Slayer IS traditional.

I agree that the music at car shows is too loud! And the same songs are played over and over! Silence IS golden!!

 

Oldies in general...

 

One year at the Goodguys show in Des Moines the DJ announced he was going to be gone for an hour. We had heard the same old tired song all weekend. We made a list of milder 1970's rock songs and duck taped them to the door of his DJ booth. When he got back he played every song on our list. It was awesome and a nice change of pace. Then it was back to the same old stuff. Gary

 

I have to agree that none over loud speakers that are away from where the band (s) are preforming on stage would be absolutely wonderful.
Billetproof was great because while you could hear the bands on stage while you were walking around you could visit with other car folk anywhere on the grounds except right in front of the stage without having to talk over canned music blasting over loud speakers.

Everyone complains about it but the show organizers do it anyway.
Little Deuce Coupe at 120dB over and over. Can't even talk to anyone.

 

I don't mind the A/G soundtrack but not with the volume turned up to 11.

 

409, Shutdown, fun fun fun, Little Deuce Coupe, green onions would be the top five for me. But not played so loud that you can't talk to people.

 

I'm with many others here, and wish they'd either lower the volume, or just not have the music! Nothing irritates me more than pick a spot at a car show, and begin visiting with friends, only to have the music start and be so loud you can't hear each other!
Do we really need to be blasted by any kind of music? No matter how much I might like it, it's obnoxious when you can't hear anyone talking!

 

At back to the 50's, some guy parked by us, pulled two big speaker cabinets out of his trunk, set them up, and blasted his music through the whole area. What makes people like this think that everybody wants to hear their music? I'd rather hear the voices of the people I'm talking to, and the hot rod engines running!

 

Nothing, except when a live band is playing era-appropriate music.
FWIW, any mainstream pop music of the 50s & 60s does not fit the rebellious spirit of hot rodding, in my opinion.

 

That's just rude! Rude to the people around you. Rude to the organizers who hired a DJ/band to provide music. Rude to the hired talent. I hate when people do this at the beach/park, too.

 

I'm an unabashed fan of doo wop and vocal group harmonies, and it always gets me that at even "traditional" shows, the only traditional music they play is rockabilly or some iteration of country. Doo wop, if it is played at all, is usually some version of some cheese ball Dion "runaround sue" garbage, and is never something legit like the Nutmegs, Classics, etc. Not to say that that should be all that's played, but a solid mix is always nice. And yes, turn it down so we can talk.

 

I like some music but like you guys said, not so loud you can't carry on a conversation! I really dig some blues and rockabilly tunes that you don't hear over and over but my top ten typical car show tunes are:

*Hot Rod Lincoln -Charlie Ryan/Jim Varney (Yes, of "know what I mean Vern?" fame)
