That should work fine. I figured you had already had given that some thought. Keep up the good work.

I have been doing some planning on my coupe. The crate 350 my wife bought me is on the list. Since it is a new crate motor, the cam and lifters are new. However I would like to try a new Comp Cams Thumpr cam. Could I just buy the cam, use my new lifters and maybe buy their springs and assemble? I know that seems cheap but I don’t want to waste money either! Opinions are welcome, positive or negative!!

Using your lifters and CompCams valves springs should work fine. Use plenty of their cam lube and break the cam/lifters in as they reccomend. I've run 3 or 4 of those cams in my cars. Run and sound great.

Fabricated oak stand offs with attach bracket. Glassed them into place with hidden fasteners in from below! Routed cables forward and then aft to go through the floor in a blister area for the quick change clearance, then through the aft block and finally up to the arm. Next I will secure the cable routing underneath and cut and install cables! Wow I might actually have mechanical brakes in the rear!!!

Well decided to go with a Comp Cams Xtreme 262 H in the crate motor! I was told by their tech guy I could use my existing valve springs and even the lifters since the motor has never been fired! Anybody ever try this set up and how was it? Spring has arrived and I need some garage time!!!

I had their old "268" cam in the 350 in my 66 Suburban for a short time before going to their more aggressive "280" grind, it was a real good runner considering the trucks' weight.
I'm not familiar with their current generation of cams and not sure of your expectations but you may find it to be a bit mild, though in a lightweight street hot rod it may suit you fine.

My plan down the road is a more aggressive cam and put my 461 heads on after I get to do a port job and rebuilt! I believe it will up the compression to about 9.2:1 . That with my 4 speed, quick change and 30” cheater slicks! That should be a fun ride!!!

99A580C9-0CEC-4559-8F65-8B2AB95A2043.jpeg Finally made up my mind and started on the crate engine mods. I am going to pull the heads, replace the valve springs with Comp Cams 981-16 springs. While it’s apart I am going to match port the heads and unshroud the bowls. The block will get a Comp Cams Thumpr cam and new gaskets and paint. What will help are the steel shim head gaskets that I plan to install. That will bring the compression up to 9 to one from 8.5 to one. Should make it a fun little hot rod with a mid weight flywheel and a quick change with 4:11 or whatever I decide to try!

Motors on the stand, pan and timing cover are off. Stock cam is on the work bench, Thumpr cam about to go in! Wow starting to get exciting!! More pics to follow! Check out my one bolt retention on the front leaf spring mount! Might use it permanently since the front axle has a panhard bar!! Good or bad? Any opinions will be appreciated!!

Nice work and good to see it moving along but did you ask the wife before snagging the guest room sheets?

I tried the single bolt in the spring, don't do it. You would be surprised how much roll control is accomplished by the U-bolts.

You're welcome. Check out our website for the u-bolt eliminator kit. It will give as much room as you can get and properly retain the spring.

It’s been awhile, but I have made progress! Short block is all together. Changed valve springs and reworked the front of the heads! I have about 5 hours of grinding on both heads! Had to have camel bumps, however all new heads , good seats and valve seals were hard to pass up on! I am also using thin steel shim head gaskets which should give me a 9 to 1 motor!!

Started to put my T10 back together after 4 years! Thank god for YouTube. There are two speedo gears available, I have the white one, what’s the difference/advantage when using the blue gear which has less teeth? Hope to put the completed engine/bel housing/ trans in next weekend! Time for a wiring harness, any suggestions?

My favorite, though not real cheap, is the American Autowire Hiway series.

Thanks, I will check them out. I had a cheap harness, not worth the money!!

  23. I can't speak for the American Auto Wire(AAW) for hot rods, but their "factory fit" harness that I used in my 56 ( see avatar) worked great ( tech support as well) . I was able to modify it as needed ( added thier (AAW) fuse panel that use's blade type ato fuses, and has a bus bar that I used for tach power, gauges, 4 way flashers- etc) if you go with the american auto wire, ck and see if you'll need thier crimpers, if so, it's likely cheaper to shop for used ones( e bay , wtb on this forum etc).

Thanks for the tips, I was looking at the fabric covered vintage wire just for the engine compartment! But that might be too much work! Although I was crazy enough to grind my heads down just for the look!!!

I wire a lot. I only use american autowire, you would be happy with their hiway 15 kit, the kits come with MORE than you need, all the switches, practise stuff, a ton of extra wire and fantastic instructions. Expensive, but worth every penny.

That was fun considering it’s been over four years since I took it apart. You tube and Google got me thru it, but the true test is yet to come! Measuring for my hydraulic throw out bearing and new clutch!

Might try to couple the trans/bell housing to the engine with the clutch/flywheel/engine assembly using with the engine on a lift and trans/ bell on a table! Then slide it in the chassis!! Oh yeah, found a throw away kitten, turned out she’s a great little girl! Ellie is here name!!
