Event Coverage Hitchhikers Gasland Amusement Park. Aka Hot Rods Anonymous. a 34 rescue story.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Hitchhiker, Jul 31, 2021.

  1. Hello, I am Hitchhiker and I have a problem. I like junk. At the drop of a hat I will drive 18 hours and 15 minutes across the state, in some sort of adrenaline fueled adventure of gonzo proportion....this time to acquire the world's shittiest 34 5 window.

It all starts with shotgunning a vanilla cold brew coffee at 7 am, and jumping in the truck with Charlie Bacon my road dog.

I live in the Skagit Valley, and could have taken highway 20, but chose highway 2.

Headed to Deer Park. Which is near Spokane.

    20210728_132933.jpg

Lots of cool old buildings and treasures along the road.

Picked up the remains of a dodge touring car from a farmers scrap pile along the way.

Some yard art I saw along the way

And the 34 in my truck. It has the doors and the decklid. The chop is....rough...like I could have done better blindfolded. Poor thing. It's actually surprisingly solid on the lower parts of the car. It's probably beyond my current skill level to fix it. But I had to save it. 20210728_193735.jpg

    Middle of no where views.

    20210728_201214.jpg

On the way back. Lots of dead bugs on the windshield.

    20210728_205932.jpg

I got back at 3 am. I was pooped. But still only slept like 5 hours and was out unloading it the next day. Here it is in my junk yard. Not sure what I am gonna do with it. I do have a 33-34 chassis. But it is meant for a truck I am building.. anyways,, hope you enjoy. it was fun to go grab it. 20210729_173249.jpg

  2. There's no optimism like that on a road adventure. Great score!

Love road stories. Especially when it involves 34’s and dog co-pilots.

I see that you’ve had previous “adventures”, how about a tour of your rescues?

Look forward to checking out this new aquisition. Good thing you took Hwy 2, because 20 is closed at the pass for the fires.

Nice save, did you get doors and a deck lid with it?

I almost bought that myself. Figured I need to focus on my 34 Dodge coupe first.

Best two things in life. A cold beer on a hot day and a road trip to anywhere to get anything.

  17. Sure man! I like showing off my junk.

Here is a 33 BB I bought last summer. It's titled and fairly complete. But no engine. Originally it was a 4 cylinder. came with a 32 cab and another disassembled 34 cab with title. A bunch of extra doors and a few beds. I kept the best doors and sold the rest and the extra beds, which paid for everything I have left.

    20210731_134656.jpg

This is a 26 or 27 T roadster I got in trade a week or so ago. It was just 20 minutes down the road.

    20210731_134722.jpg

Here is a bed that I got out of California. For another 34 truck build I have going.

    20210731_134710.jpg

Here is the cab for that one(left) and the 32 cab I mentioned on the right. The 34 cab was a complete BB with title that has great patina. Originally a v8 truck, with 1 repaint over the original red. I have a regular chassis to put it on, matching hood and grill. It should be pretty cool. I drug that one home 6 or 8 years ago and started collecting parts. That was a real adventure as it was a LWB truck with the big old rear end in it, which I didn't realize how much it weighed...I couldn't get going much over 30-35 without the nastiest fish tail over. That was a fun 80 mile trip at 25mph on the old highways.

    20210731_134906.jpg

I drug this thing home last night....it's a 1928. Lots of early stuff on it. Has doors and a title. You can see both of @41 GMC K-18 contributions in the background here. The hamb friendly 47 dodge coupe and the ambulance which is unfriendly, but to big to move for pictures.... 20210731_134746.jpg

Here is a free frame I got on whidbey Island. Has 40 brakes. I think it's a 36-38ish.. mainly got it for the x member for a future av8

    20210731_134805.jpg

Here is a 1953 dodge pilot house, I also rescued(read free) from Seattle from a really cool old car guy named Ernie. He's got some really cool cars I won't mention. But this was his work truck and has been sitting in his back yard since 1980 and he just wants to see something done with it. I'm hopeful him and I can go around the block in it.

    20210731_134816.jpg

I bought this large parts lot yesterday too. I've bought another lot of model A stuff off @uncle buck. I can't find the pictures. And some Lincoln brakes sets down in Vancouver area. This about covers since the beginning of the year on hamb friendly stuff. Lots more going on as well. 20210730_114202.jpg

  18. Thanks, my grandpa bought that new. Had a cmaper on it for most of its life.

I have a customer in Twisp, it looks bad, good to know 20 is closed

    Pez is my favorite though

I did...they are probably the best part..

It is! Stopped and visited with him. He seems well, and happy. If not a little isolated and lonely because of that. He looks really healthy. His place is really cool. Beautiful garden. He's building a cool speedster. Engine is from his place as well.

    Awesome stuff! Love the 34!
Great riding along with you. Been awhile since I did a banzai run for car stuff.
Us car junkies can relate to the extreme adrenaline rush of road trippin for cars & parts!

"PEZ" got two new rear tires today, tomorrow it gets the new battery and will get started up, it's going to look awesome next to the other two contributions, I am going to come up and shoot pictures of them all together and do a write up and thread titled "The good, the big and the ugly"
This will have to be a teaser, because no one will ever guess what kind of vehicle " PEZ " is!
