im in need of a diagram showing proper assembly of ball socket cups springs and seats. This one came to me I think with missing pieces. I need to know what all I need and what order do things go in. Thanks
This shows a 47 tie rod. 1947 Chevrolet Truck Shop Manual (oldcarmanualproject.com) Paint can hunt pages better than I can this morning.
That is one nice looking truck. Eyeballing this one from Chevs of the 40's shows the image of the spring being at the end of the slot that the the ball slips though and pushes it towards the other end. As many times as I have had those things apart I never gave it a second thought.
If you are replacing the balls and sockets, chuck the ball in a drill press and spin them fairly slow, use valve lapping compound on the cups and lap them together. It will drive much better if you do.
Great info. Thanks and thanks for the compliment on the truck. My buddy has been after me for 15 years to build and paint this truck for him. Downtown details and hopefully a fire up soon
