40 standard front clip is the same as a 39 deluxe, grill is a little different but they interchange, headlight buckets are different
so is that simply a 40 hood and grille with 39 car fenders? I thought the 39 deluxe - because it has a n opening screen, had the same cowl top as a 39 pickup
The car sheetmetal isn't a direct fit onto the trucks; this post explains part of it... Technical - 1941 Ford pickup fender | The H.A.M.B. (jalopyjournal.com) IIRC there's also enough differences on the hoods to preclude a direct swap. I know there's been several posts here about this and the degree of difficulty of using car bits. The '40-41 truck front sheetmetal looks like the '40 parts but has all it's own part numbers.
Learned the truck fender has a little off it by the cowl of firewall along with the inside aprons I belive are different....but hey we make things work around here.
Don't know if this helps at all, but back in the late 80s I built this street/drag '40 pickup with '37 pass front sheetmetal. The hood and side panels matched the '40 cab almost perfectly...but obviously I didn't have to deal with hood hinges. (It looked a lot faster than it really was). In the early 90s I threw together this '39 Ford pickup (289/4spd)...just couldn't live with that 39 grille, so I changed it to a modified '36 Ford pickup grille. This one took some work...lowered front fenders 3" (at the front), and had to modify the hood, side panels and center chin. (the cat on the roof approved)

(jalopyjournal.com) I am thinking, no one has ever put a 39/40 front clip on a 39 pickup, as you would just locate a 40 cab! hmm I can't seem to find 39 pickup hood sides or inner fenders -or the fenders I have a mint cab and hood = 39 I can buy repop inner 40 fenders rework 40 car fenders to 40 pickup - or 39 then?, just how different is the lower cowl on a 39 to 40 - is the inner structure where it bolts to the frame the same? bring the double spear up the hood. fit 39 headlight buckets it would still be 1939

There used to be a '39 pickup with '39 DeLuxe front clip sitting west of Prineville Oregon many years ago. Looked good, was unfinished. Wonder where that one went..... Dave
There's a local guy who has a very nice '40 pickup with '39 passenger car front sheet metal. As said, the vehicle is very well done and looks terrific.
Unless I am wrong, and I am never wrong...that is a 40/41 PU with 39 headlight buckets and a bulb conversion. A 39 has a chrome framed, opening windshield. Of course this one has a nasty one piece windscreen so it could have been customized and as you mentioned, someone has filled the cowl vent and removed the hod trim, door handles, etc so who knows.
OK you are wrong,,, TMI for this crowd You are right with what you noted,, a true 'car' 40 pickup would have the Deluxe grill and hood,, the grill easy, the hood WAPITA!!

greatm is the lower side cowl panel on a 38/9 the same as a 40/41 pickup or would a 40 pickup fender bolt to a 39
You said until someone said I am wrong, so I told you, you were wrong.. And Back to the 40, car and truck front fenders are 'almost' the same, and you can put any grill on either, but the problem comes with hoods. The car hood does not bolt onto the truck and verse/visa. For the truck hood you need to start with the lower third of a truck hood for the bolt on area, then add the upper 2/3's of a car deluxe hood for the shape and mating to the deluxe. So you 'only ' have to cut up a truck hood and a car hood in todays prices about $1,000 in metal. I was too poor to do it and lacking in metal skills, I drove my 40 for years with a deluxe grill and no hood. It looked hot rod, but the sun just beat the wires and rubber to death.
Agreed the hood is the biggest challenge. I found the 39 Standard hood also has a different brace across the cowl, I am hoping I can extract the brace from the truck hood so it fits the cowl, and gives me proper truck hinge mounts.
I saw this truck photographed by Craig wise today. Maybe a little off topic but this guy grafted a 40 deluxe hood and fenders onto this pick up. Looks pretty good to me.
