The alternator is running clockwise with the belt was running anticlockwise with the chain...Not all alternators work in both directions??

on the bench the alternator I was using worked in both directions, just wouldn’t work on the car with the chain.

I've seen some drag cars with the alternator being friction driven by a rubber "tire" rolling on the balancer O.D. Maybe if you have a low amp draw you can get by with something like that?

    mmm tempermental!
I once bought a Wade blower which had a chain drive, had been used on a Jaguar. I removed the drive because the previous owner told me he had a lot of trouble with it breaking chains which he described as "quite dangerous to man and machine" ...ha  . He said the blower made the chain/drive pulse in some way...I wonder if that would disturb the alternator.

'The Need for Speed'...this reminds me of historic greatness at the Dry Lakes where failure was just a part of achieving the record...again you certainly have the mindset for the challenge @nutrocker...a Big Salute to your continued efforts to iron out the issues...you have us on the edge of our front row seats...;)

It survived the rolling road last Friday, albeit having to replace the clutch after the second day.

Sadly due to not being able to stop tire slip on the rollers we didn’t get a final hp figure.

We had 62hp up to the cam coming on at 3000 rpm. At this point the tires started to slip and the hp just dropped away.

The upside is that although the hp figures fell away and even with the tire slip the rollers still measured 105mph.

    Fingers crossed for Pendine.

It's a part of pushing the envelope...setbacks lead to solutions...the damage is like tea leaves for Hotrodders...read it and innovate to prevent it and reap the checkered Flag...it certainly takes a strong willed individual to overcome these anomalies and move forward...Nutrocker is but one of them...

Sounds as if he just has to harness that power that he has created...monster cool...what a beast.

If borntoloze was talking about the broken parts, I seem to remember that they were left there in the sump by an engine builder but were from from a different engine?

I stand corrected that it was not involved in a breakdown but was an accident waiting to happen if not discovered...getting old but I know Nuts had some hurdles...glad it's being put through the paces...exciting...

I see this Build as a Hamb Friendly nod to this Sedans Period Offering...aka Nutrocker and Old Hotrod Ingenuity & Genius at the heart of it all...Drags, Lakes or Street slalom...I know you like pushing envelopes...in style...

The car finally made it to the VHRA Pendine Sands beach race.
Lots of last minute problems issues caused a fair amount of doubt, but it got there and ran on the sand.
97.45 mph. Which I think is really good for the first runs.
Next year it’ll hopefully be back and faster.

I’ll leave you with a bunch of photos. Credit to the photographers.

  22. Yes it is. It now lives in Brighton England with Mr. Steve "my razor broke" Hill. And now that he has an engine in it that will live longer than one meet, he's finally ready to paint that bitch!!
All joking aside, Steve is doing right by my old hot rod. The chassis is totally done with everything that unbolts re chromed. He is drag racing the car, and running, and setting records on the sand. Since I was stupid enough to let it get away, the car could not have a better caretaker!

Steve was crowned King of the Beach this year with an outstanding 121.96 mph. The second highest speed recorded in the 8 years of the VHRA Pendine Sands beach races.
And yeah, looks like his razor broke.

It was shot by Nick Pettitt, who lives near me but we've never met, he shoots a lot of old car stuff.

I feel your pain, I would regret selling that one too...
