Just a thought, but wondering if you could paint the a/c vent to match the dashboard to give it a more OEM appearance? Just wanted to toss the idea out there.

No kidding. I just went to Field's Fabrics and bought two yards of the exclusive, "special ordered" ultra-suede he made the headliner from, for $10 a yard. Odd, he said it took him two weeks to get it. We knew where it came from, as seen the fabric he bought, in it's clear "Field's Fabrics" bag. Douchebag.

  6. Glad you fired the first upholsterer, but I think you owe the second guy a bottle of expensive booze!

Here's my fancy NOS Michigan 1952 license plate, all legal like, registered to the car, and ready to go. I made a couple of little tabs and welded them to the edge of the bumper to mount the mid 60's GM plate hinge, instead of a gas filler, it hides the hitch receiver. I like it. It's just tacked on for now, but I'll finish it up and painted tomorrow. I was a little hesitant to weld on the bumper at first, then I thought, "I cut the bumper into three pieces with a cut off wheel, then chopped a hole in it for the hitch. Why worry?" 2C0D9E30-90B8-42A1-B954-BD3D652C2316.jpeg 37F081CE-5DCF-4378-B159-DE2527409131.jpeg

Where did you find a mid sixties plate hinge that was for a vehicle that used unleaded fuel?

I like the idea, but wonder about the legality of it when pulling a trailer. Some smart ass cop is going to be an ass because it isn't in plain sight and visible. You just know asses like that are out there!

Yeah, maybe double hinge the assembly so the plate flops down when the tariler is hooked up.

  13. I did that same thing on a couple pickups with roll pans years ago and never had any issue pulling with the plate down. I guess I didn’t necessarily search out the laws associated with it, but practical experience traveling around multiple states said it wasn’t any issue.

As long as you don't leave the hitch in the receiver when you aren't pulling a trailer you probably will never have an issue. You can't see the rear license plate when you have a trailer hooked to it anyway.

Well that will be a reminder to take the shin buster out after you set the trailer up.

  16. Yep, that was my thought as well. And, I never left the hitch in if a trailer wasn’t hooked up.

By the way, the wagon is turning out great! Glad to see you persevered through all the trials with others. The interior looks great now!

Speaking of shin busters, we have a new, $3,000 shin buster! Got a Hensley Hitch. It's amazing. It absolutely locks the trailer to the tow vehicle, it can NOT sway. The trailer doesn't pivot to turn on the ball, somehow, inside this orange box, is some kind of Voodoo magic that allows it to move behind the truck ONLY when the truck (or car) is turning. This big single axle trailer can be a handful in crosswinds, or being passed by semi's, even behind our new 1500 RAM we can feel it. It's a lot of money, but cheaper than being upside down in the median... CE1F4669-6036-4C80-B79D-68AD7B84913A.jpeg

Half the time when we've been towing I forget to put the plate back in (the Pontiac wagon had the plate on a short plug that went in the receiver). I'll bet I logged 10,000 miles in that car with no plate on it. When it got hit and totaled, the plate wasn't on it. The cop asked where it was, I fished it out of the rubble that had once been the back of the wagon and found it. "You're good", he said.

    It’s both. Never used, so, it’s “new” and it’s a ‘52.

  22. I’ve always wondered what kind of Voodoo happens inside those hitches! The car is awesome Brian!

Thanks! We’d have been driving it by now if it weren’t for the lying SOB we had do the upholstery. I’m (almost) over that fiasco…

First drive today! This thing is incredible. Goes like HELL, quiet and smooth as our new 300C. A couple teething problems: The gas gauge doesn't work, the clock quit, the speedo seems to be getting no information, it lays on "0", and the new dimmer switch won't "click" from high to low. The headlights started flashing on and off, which I though might be a bad ground as none of the other lights do this, but I think it's the faulty dimmer. A hubcap parted ways with the left front wheel at the stop sign 5 miles down the road, I fetched it, but I don't care for them anyway, and ordered a set of single bar flipper caps, which I've always liked.
Oh, and BOTH new halogen headlight lenses are broken after our little twilight trip, so I have no idea why they'd break. I wonder if the bad dimmer had both bright and dim elements on? Anyway, new dimmer switch on the way, the local auto parts store has the headlights, and I found the wayward stock hubcap. So, it's all good, and I'll get after the fuel gauge and speedo issues as time allows. 47A9EE42-7CD8-4100-8239-D3BFBEE28C8D.jpeg 19E18C11-3BF5-4E21-8488-52E77157EDEE.jpeg
