Technical Mystery brake pads with history....

Hey all... it's been a while since I've been on here.

I've got a question on brake pads and my first thought was "I know the folks on the HAMB would have the answer for this."

So the story goes... my customer's dad ran with a group of guys who ran pro stock and dabbled in funny cars. In the 60s they wrecked the prostock and gave up on the funny car. This guy's Dad put the motor in a tbucket and the rear end from the funny car went underneath. (Allegedly. I'm hearing this from a guy who was told the story and only partially listening) And now he's looking to get it back on the road to the cruise nights only... no racing.

So the brakes on the 56ish Olds rear were some special Kelsey Hayes chrome calipers that were only around for a year or two. All I have are pictures and a drawing to go off of. Also allegedly a Strange Engineering brake kit... which makes sense because the guy is Northwest Indiana local.

So what say you... any clue where this guy can get pads or what application to look for? Thanks in advance!

 

They look real similar to VW pads, like a 70's squareback.

Or have them relined. There are places all over the country that reline brake shoes every day. I'd bet they can do pads as well.

 

mikey, your uncle nick just gave me a dual caliper disc set up that came off a T altered with an olds rearend.

the calipers aren't chrome but they are kelsey hayes 800-H2 models just like the set alchemy sold in the past.

got the rotors with olds bolt pattern, brackets and four calipers

 

you might want to check hurst-airheart to see if they have a similiar profile or size

Close but those are wider than they are taller (according to the specs I've found)

Do an image search for Girling brake pads. There are many different variations that look similar. If anyone has an old brake parts catalog with dimensions, that might help.

roughly 2 7/16" wide and 2 3/4" tall. Most pads that look like it are wider than taller... this are taller than they are wide

 

Look up early Porsche 911, I put in 1968, they Look right...

 

they look like the pads for this style caliper. they are quick change pads, pull the two pins and slide out the pads without having to split the caliper.

 

You will have to check the dimensions but GMA brand motorcycle pads look like they may be close. There some different styles but they are close to the same.
