I guess nobody here ever saw early Chevy V8 motor mounts separate and the engine nearly roll over, ripping loose wires, hoses, and exhaust pipes ? Remember drag racers using a piece of chain bolted to the left front of the engine to hold it down when the mount ripped loose ? Working at a Chevy dealer I replaced dozens of SBC mounts in the '60s and '70s. A Corvair mount never came apart unless someone working on the car did something wrong.

Midget master, Bob Tattersall, and Merle Bettenhausen seem to be enjoying all the benefits of a winter racing trip down under. The Australians were fanatical about their "Speed Car" racing, and American cars and drivers.
Don Branson running Sacramento in 1965. When Don went out to qualify, other drivers would stop what they were doing to watch him. This is the year that Don was the next to the last to qualify. The track was used up, and the half dozen cars prior to him were too slow. Don set quick time and then went on to win the race. Bob Tronolone photo.
Larry Crockett hard on the gas in a sprint car in 1954. Rudimentary helmet, no fireproof clothes, no shoulder harness, no roll bar or cage. Sadly, Larry perished at Langhorne in 1955. The race drivers 30's till the full roll cage's time early 70's were the bravest of the brave, IMO
partying @ Milton Berle's, and in the hills in general, led to a lot of carnage. If Clark Gable could plow over a guy hammered, in a Duesenberg and get away with it, imagine what was never reported.
