    Looks like a bladder style accumulator which uses a nitrogen pre charge in an internal bladder. They may have used that as a way to supercharge the motor. Possible, I suppose. And see the two pressure vessels in the background for filling (?). Bosch 9049018597406.png

    If I remember correctly it was a compressed air or oxygen system for pressurizing the intake in an attempt to avoid the horsepower drain of the conventional GMC blower. Mickey Thompson experimented with it too. I think it worked ok but NHRA didn’t like the safety aspects of it and decided to ban it. Those were the good old days of innovation and experimentation.

    Around 1971 Mickey had a Themocharger on a Boss 429, made 2800 hp. It was a large vessel and you are right, NHRA feared for the safety factor.
