  2. Does anyone else have the feeling that if you were there in that driveway the answer would be obvious?
And it can sometimes simply fall together with a different pair of hands and muscle memory. It can happen so naturally, you need to figure out WHY the other guy had an issue.
This is not meant as a put-down of anyone. We all have different life experiences. For example, I love my wife dearly and wouldn't trade her for a box of pups, but at least once a month she will get frustrated with something and be telling me she can't get "Tab A into Slot B". But if I can get her to stop trying and hand it over........ for me, it all comes together. I guess because I unconsciously put the right kind of English on my shot. o_O

  3. Like maybe once every 28 days :rolleyes:;):D

I wonder if he's putting the bolts in the crank flange THEN trying to install the flywheel ... o_O

My guess is that the OP is embarrassed by how if he had listened to what people were suggesting it would have been fixed shortly after starting this thread! Last Thursday morning he said he would take pictures of how the holes didn't line up that evening and post them for us to see and he hasn't been seen on the HAMB since!

Had trouble goin' to sleep last night...thinking about 'Transfer Punches', and their misuse...
Then I had a dream, I was able to download pics of crank and flywheel. Then it was a case of comparing, resizing, and... precisely measuring both pics with an ornichronomomitor, which I had to invent.
To quote the fabulous late Ruth Brown: "Oh, what a dream!"

  14. I think I may have solved the problem ... the engine is NOT a Chev 327, it's a Rambler 327. You are welcome :D

My guess is after reading all the posts that were arguing whether a dowel was factory or not and numerous posts that had nothing to do with the topic he decided to quietly walk away shaking his head......

  16. I can honestly say that if I tried to install a SBC GM flywheel on a Rambler 327, I'd be looking for a place to hide too ;)

In case some people don't know the difference, this is a Chevrolet 327.

Short story just to add confusion to confusion. Bought a '65 Bel Air in'80. Pulled the 283 and PG. Eng is '58 to '62 283. Car was never altered. WTF ?

I think the issue was / is, is that it's a Corvette 327.

  29. Just to throw a serious thought into an otherwise completely fubar thread... I've built a bunch of Chevy engines in my 64 years and I've seen plenty where the holes in the flywheel were very slightly collapsed at the outer edge (for lack of a better word) from the heads of the bolts crushing the holes inward ever so slightly. This makes the bolts difficult to install. A quick chamfer of the holes and the bolts practically installed themselves.
