What would be different with a FE other than less money in the bank. There's others winning with the sbf.

It's not hard to screw together a 500hp 347, try hard and make 575. Hell my 292 w made 455 on the dyno only turning it to 6300.

Dyno and the track are two different things ;)

  5. Horsepower is great, but the class is limited to a 7” tire…….

Welp.......it may not BE HARD to screw together a 500 HP 347 but it IS expensive to get one to last with heavy abuse of weekend racing!!
    Especially a stock FoMoCo block.
Any power much above 500HP will have cracks come in it at all-the-worng-times... and the smoke tends to get out.
    (or so I've "heard"!!)
Throw enough $$ at it and reliability comes back.
Maybe de-stroke a 351 Clevor engine and wind it to the moon
    Jus money!

A 363 Dart short block are only 5500. And don't kid yourself about the dyno, the winning guys are flogging combinations on the dyno.

You guys are good at spending a retiree's money. My ultimate choices are to figure out what I have .
Build a Good $ FE . Build a big 347 which would be my cheapest way to go because I could use everything I have and just buy a block and pistons. Since they use a 3.25 stroke and 5.4 rods.
Clevor's are not legal . You must use a 20 degree inline head.
Let me screw this thing back together and see how it does with the new cam. Then if the money gets right a Blue Thunder dual quad intake and 2 660 Holleys.

Southcross I don't know if you mentioned it, and I just went through the SEGA rules for S/S but are you racing heads up or is it dial in for each S/S car?

That's the way to go on a budget. I think the dual quad setup (and maybe the Howard cam) would be the ticket. I don't know about the 347 stroker for longevity. The 331 may serve you better in the long run. The rod/stroke ratio is a bit stressful on the 347. Things could go South rather quickly in a high rpm drag build. JMO.

It's heads up pro tree 1st to the finish line no buybacks. You run 2 rounds of qualifying one round in each lane and then the fastest runs the slowest and so on. The faster car gets lane choice.
I can buy a big bore Dart block just under 2 grand and a set of lightweight forged dome pistons for around $600 and build a big bore 347 with a short stroke so the rod ratio is not as bad as a small bore 347.
Saving up for the intake first because it will work on either motor.

I haven't heard that argument in fifteen or twenty years, that and the oil rings going past the pin being a problem. With all the 347s built including the turbo 1000 + hp builds I don't think it is a concern, the 363 is the same rod and stroke, the best thing for the sbf is an aftermarket block.

How far can you bore the Dart, .060+? I've run .060 over 289 blocks without a problem years ago.

4.125 is what you can order but I'm not sure how far they can be taken...

    4.185 is the biggest bore...thats 374 cid.

Thanks, Grumpy! I'm behind the times, obviously.
That would make a deep-breathing, high-revving mill for sure with whopper heads and big cam :)

Got my parts from Jegs this morning. Good service from Jegs and FedEx to order on Friday and be delivered on Sunday. UPS doesn't deliver on Sunday which will make me consider do I buy from Jegs and get my stuff on the weekend or Summit and wait 2 extra days to get my parts.

A 408 W injected on 25% nitro seemed to work ok. 8500 with Scat rods and crank.;)

There is a guy on YouTube that split a 351 block in half with a blower, he has a 63 Fairlane gasser.

Here's a 351W(base) powered SEGA car. A good bet it AIN'T a FoMoCo block but......it ain't an FE motor either!
Love to watch this kid 'Cut-It-Loose' when he runs. WOW!
    9000+RPM shift points and he don't baby-it!!

there's also a guy on u tube( Project stock bottom end) that has ran deep into the 9 seconds with a turbo 302 fox body and a stick shift. Motor has held up for a ton of passes.

I am not worried about damaging a block unless I put a rod through it and then I have another 289 block. Thinking about going .060 over and building a little screamer. I have a fresh 289 crank that's .020 under. Just need some rods and pistons. Found some Scat 5.155 rods and looking a the pin height for some hollow dome pistons. Some Chevy pistons have the right pin height and valve relief.

I would have a set of custom pistons made and give them a goal of 360 grams that uses a metric ring pack.

Yeah, we are looking at that also. I got the motor back in the car yesterday.
Hope to have it running today or tomorrow at the latest.
Waiting for the parts store to open so I can get oil and filter.
