^^^^^ You may have a stuck by pass now on the oil pump?

  2. I just picked up oil and a filter, try that before i pull the pan. It's a new engine, maybe 200 miles, but it sat for 4 years after it was put together

I don't think I need to tell you not to run it long if gauge does not show INSTANT improvement with oil change if there is as much sludge as you stated.

This is the part of the pump I was referring to (yes I called it by pass I know) that can get stuck open.

  5. Thanks Johnny, i called my buddy to see if he had an engine ready to go and if he wanted to thrash with me tonight, he told me that his 400 small block did the same thing, new engine with not many miles, said he cut the filter open and it was nasty, so he changed it all and it was fine, he said he'd bring a new pump and pickup and gaskets if i needed but to try the filter first. So that's what i did. Fired up and went straight to 50lbs idling. Lifters got quiet and all seems fine. Think I'll put some miles on it and change it again tmrw. Hopefully i got lucky. 20210615_124118.jpg 20210615_124219.jpg

Hey Lloyd, I see you changed your avatar. We all knew that you are a man of many talents but didn't realize that porn star was one of them. Gotta love the stache.

  7. Here's my question, is this crap that feels like grease, the zinc additive? I changed the oil in 2020 after the break in period.

Don't have answer. Maybe start a new thread for a wider viewing along with photo of filter.
