I'm laughing. In a good way, of course. I'd be doing the same thing,
sorting and bagging even though I knew I wouldn't use it all in 20
years. The parts and pictures have taken me back 60 years.

Rudestude, that is easily the most amazing stash I have ever seen! I am very proud of my own stash but this takes it to the next level! If I found a stash like that, I would have to give up work - how could you go to work and concentrate knowing that stuff was waiting for you?
I can see the custom 57Fairlane rear extension that is meant to hold four bullet taillights -I could finish a recreation of my first ever 1/25th scale model. Then there is a beautiful set of four into three chrome headers - I just restored a set for my AMT Custom 32 Tudor, the one with the Edsel grille unit, but your pair is so much nicer.

And that pink grille, I have one as well! It is from the 1/32 scale Aurora custom 32 Tudor - originally known as 32 Skidoo and a knock-off of the first version of the Lil Coffin. Cant remember the name of the later pink, hippy cop version but that is where your grille came from. Chances are the block is from the same kit - it is a simplified version of a 1/32 scale 409 Chevy.

Cool is the only word that comes close to describing this stash but words really don't do it justice. It would be soooooooo cool to be able to sort through that just for the memories.

Congratulations. Whatever you paid, it was a bargain!
    Cheers
    Alan

Guys, new project started. Back to the roots....1965 Fuel Altered.

The famous "Pacers Auto". Will be a correct scale 1:16 brass model. Mr. Scott Snizek is owner/driver of the famous cars, and has been kind enough to send me a lot of photos! All is now documented and I have no questions open about this car, it's all there now.

    Here photo by Steve Snizek of the 1963 clone car rebuilt brand new and the scale tub from original dimensions;

    Strand 3.jpg -IMG_4027.jpg -IMG_4029.jpg -IMG_4031.jpg -IMG_4034.jpg -IMG_4033.jpg

All the parts have been sorted out and all areas of the car have photo documentation.

Gotta give Fuel Altereds some love now...

    Mike..

What a cool project!! I've known George and that car for quiet a few years now and I just love it. But for the record, George's son is Scott.

Wow 60 years.....I just turned 60 yesterday...and of course I spent the day looking at parts...and working on my Studebaker.
I didn't know if I was going to get back on here...I lost access to the site, tried everything couldn't get it back , finally emailed Ryan and he sent me the info...but still just got on now....I was having withdrawals bad ..man, hanging out here spreading the bs with you guys is all that keeps me going with this stuff..
Only way I can get it is going through the Jolopy Journal site, its different layout than I normally have on my device, tablet or mobilephone,...don't understand whats going on really ..but Im back anyways ..for now.

  8. It's not sunday and it's not a classic plastic model, but I recently built this with my son's LEGO.
The hot rod was completely "scratchbuilt" by me.
Probably I will offer it to LEGO and they will make a set called "Hot Rod Gang".....;)

The PACERS fuel altered. 1:16 brass project, vintage 1965.
Today the chassis is finished. Also prepped the body tub to fit so the rest can be made. Mocked up with rear axle and slicks. The wheels shown will not be used.

  16. I also remember as a kid that the ultimate betrayal was your favorite driver switching brands. I would have died if Dale Earnhardt switched to a Ford! (even though he drove a Ford in the '83 season)

Ironically, Fireball died in a fire (actually the results of a fire) at Charlotte in 1964 in a Ford. Junior Johnson and Ned Jarrett got out of shape which made Fireball do the same. He backed into a wall which caused the fuel tank to explode. He succumbed to injuries in the hospital later.

Further along with the Pacers car.
Some details added to chassis. Steering bar changed out, too low. Steering unit added along with clutch and go pedal. Brake handle works, goes into the plunger as a gimmick. Seat tilts, also a gimmick, just because it's hump day, and we all need a lift.

    -IMG_4051.jpg -IMG_4058.jpg -IMG_4055.jpg -IMG_4073, tilt.jpg -IMG_4074.jpg -IMG_4086.jpg -IMG_4076.jpg

Looking good Mike, I found this turtle deck while digging, only part I could find.
I am going to spray some clear on it to protect the decals.
Not sure what kit its from. 20210610_021810~2.jpg

Found this cool plaque while digging in model parts last night...it's cast in metal, not aluminum, but something a little heavier.
    Good detail for it's size. 20210612_031408~2.jpg 20210612_031858.jpg

Further on now, the PACERS car. All brassworks for the chassis are finished, save the motor mounts, later on when the motor is delivered.
Added are go pedal toe strap, pushbar cross bracing, interior footrests, fuel/mag shutoffs added and a chute release with adjusting nut. More important though, the firewall bar was corrected, now more rounded. Also the angle of attachment at rollbar is corrected. I like. The owner approves!

Next up softer things, seat upholstery and steering wheel.

I got some more info on that aluminum/resin Studebaker body that I posted earlier.
The guy that originally made it did so by taking a old Studebaker promo , this was done many years back, and covering the car with aluminum foil he worked the foil around the body and using small tools that he made ...sticks/ paddles...made of teak , because of its soft oily wood , pencil erasers etc. he worked the foil into the nooks and crannies to get the details ...when done he removed the foil from the body then covered the under / inside of the aluminum body with a resin that made the body hold its shape.....very interesting.
It pretty rough , I lightly sanded the primer coat off..a little bit to see if there were seams from several pieces of foil or if it was a single piece of foil....I can't really tell , I do not see any seams? Can't imagine it was done with a single sheet of foil?
Anyways I will probably eventually put together some kind of chassis / platform with wheels and display it as is. 20210612_210408~2.jpg 20210612_210137~2.jpg 20210612_210439~2.jpg
