Just completed wheel change...Halibrand Magnesium Indy 16"x 6.25" rear, and 15" x 5" copies made by Ron Blondell back in 2006 for Poteet and never used....feel Blessed to have found them.
You couldn't find a better looking wheel. I used to have a couple of that design we ran on the front of the sprinter with speedway ribs on them.
Those Poteet wheels are perfect. I guess I'll keep the So-Cal pin drive knockoff wheels on my deuce roadster, they look good. DD, nothing wrong with PS Engineering.
Hope Tannergang doesn't mind me barging in here. Thanks Gary. One of the biggest reasons I chose PS wheels was because unlike most other makers of the kidney bean style wheel they also offered theirs in a two piece version. I wanted a rear wheel with as much backspace as possible to have better access to the tri-wing nut with a lead hammer, a wheel with a deep front space makes that pretty difficult. Mine were built when Phil still owned the business and having been a machinist for thirty years and based on him answering the phone while running the lathe (one man shop I believe) this impressed me. His two piece wheel came standard with a polished hoop but I wanted a wheel that looked like magnesium Halibrand kidney bean wheels of the fifties and what sealed it for me was Phil said that would be no problem as he would run them through the bead blaster after they were welded, all my requests were met, that would not have happened with other wheel mfg's.
I bought a set of Polished PS Engineering knockoff 16X6 and 15X6 wheels (had Eric Vaughn narrow the fronts to 5) for a high end deuce roadster I built back in the early 2000's, sold the car to a man in CA and was offered them back for a grand which I snapped up. They ended up on a Dearborn Deuce highboy that I sent to Japan.
My problem was limited space with fenders.....I love the deep dish look, but wouldn't fit....then i found this set...fronts were still bagged in the boxes...the rears were weathered....I light bead blasted them and a friend re-machined the lip....been wanting and saving for a set of knockoffs for a couple years....
A grand....man, I hate to say what I ended up in mine...BUT...I wanted them...at 68 we better get what we want while we can.
Ha, you're right about that! I don't recall how much my wheels cost but I think I paid a grand just for the four sets of K.O. adapter hubs, tri-bar nuts and drive pins.
