Anyone know who I’m thinking of? He/shop used to sell on eBay years back. I’ve a buddy in need, I don’t have the time these days to help him out, so he just wants one he can bolt in, and basically run.
    Thanks

The drop in, ring/pinion/carrier, bearings, the whole shabang. The place I recall had them set up and ready to run. My friend has a housing and nothing else. Except axles and brakes. He just wants a drop in (he can contact them for axle splines) and tell them the ratio he’s looking for.
He’s within driving to the area to look it over. The place I recall from some years back was accommodating to that, and had a good rep on EBay. I just thought some one would know whom I’m thinking of.

I guess in some parts of the country the center section is called a drop, or drop out.

So jokes aside, what do you all refer to a 9inch housed 3rd member that is complete and ready to run? I’ve always thought/ called them a drop in. “Chunk with gears” or?

If you can't find him, try the rear end shop in Riverbank for your third member.

I'm 74 years old and have never heard or seen that term until right now. I've always seen them called third members with a few racers calling them chunks.
Might be a locality thing on the drop.

Here in Oklahoma it’s mainly “ third member” then a description of what it is. Like an open (or locked) third member for a nine inch with 3.50 gears and 31 splines. Sometimes you hear the term “ pumpkin” . Just different terminology in different areas.

Over here we keep it simple and straightforward. We call it a Diff. Or a diff centre.
