I wonder why is the engine mounted so high up? The transmission tunnel must be huge.

 

That was Vinnie Tarentola's record setting C/GS Willys. It was bought by Louie DiDinato and was a street rod and black for awhile. This is the first I've seen it in over 45 years. It started life with a blown Buick that screamed then Vinnie put in a SBC and started setting records. He was also the founder of Vitar Powershift Hydros. mHe was a very smart man, his first shop was upstairs from another gasser record holder Jack Merkel.

It was at Steel in Motion car show and event in South Carolina a few years ago. I would guess that the owner lives nearby. I knew that it had some cool history.

That's the way they came off the assembly line.....

 

Not that it matters to me but, not seeing any door hinges makes me think this is a 'glass car.

 

Probably is, no hinges, or stainless trim are usually dead giveaways.

Yeah guys it is a glass car.My son and I built that car. It was a Active Power Inc. Body and chassis package out of Mentor Ohio.It took us 7 years. I SOLD IT 4 YEARS AGO TO A GUY IN TEXAS!

 

I've always wanted to/wondered what it would look like if I was to prime a 'glass Willys (one solid color), then sprinkle chop saw grinding dust onto the car/into the paint (roof and tops of fenders) while the primer was still wet, then park it outside for a while. Obv the intent would be to have genuine rust on a 'glass car. I agree, it would be 'fake patina' but it might actually be hard to detect (the fakeness of it).

I may have missed my meds this morning ...
