Gee, lewislynn, did we get up on the wrong side of the bed this morning? I didn't call anybody names. I don't think I'm arrogant. I also don't think I am an expert, and I'm not asking for anyone to agree with me. But I do know what I like and my opinion is as valid as yours. I'm hoping that you're not including me as one of the jerks. Ron

A Bobby Marshall story, Retired Sprint car racer and source of many pics/stories I post. Bobby Unser at the Speedway back in the 60's, My fondest memory of Bobby Unser was when we raced a World of Outlaw race at that track up on a hill on the outskirts of Albuquerque in October of 1980. It was just me and Sherry and our baby daughter and my dad flew in for the race. We ran this race before the Western World I believe. I was working on changing gears and getting ready for hot laps and Bobby Unser walks up and asked me if I needed any help. I was floored that he wanted to help me and I wondered why because his nephew Al Unser Jr was racing that night as were Bobby Unser Jr and Robby Unser. Bobby Unser help change tires, gears, and told me what he thought after watching me out on the track as far as things to help the set up. He was the most humble man and I think I ran 4th or 5th that night. After the races he hung around and drank a couple of beers with us and then he started walking away and I thanked him again as he walked away. I still can't believe that night
Bobby Unser in the Sproul Homes Champ Car at the Pikes Peak Hill Climb when Pikes Peak was a USAC Championship point paying race. The Unser's were the kings of the mountain back then and especially Bobby Unser. The driver and car owner of the car were listed as Bobby Unser. Bobby won the Pikes Peak USAC race in this car
RIP, 1934-2021, 3 X Indy 500 winner among many accomplishments. I took some time to post a small tribute to Bobby Unser, I never met the man, a great racer and genuine good guy from all I've read or heard. A Tom Hanley story/post. Bobby Unser, a great race car driver, the greatest storyteller. Passed away at age 87. When you walked through the front door of his Albuquerque home, the first thing you saw was this huge wooden desk and Bobby at the controls in his large leather chair. He was always in control. During a speaking engagement in Chicago, I spent the day with Bobby. Before the event we all met at a race car shop to look at an Indy Roadster under construction and talk about the good old days. Oh, the stories Bobby told. The best one was when he outsmarted the entire Indy Car group by having a Turbo Charger built for his Gurney Eagle Offy that looked the same on the outside but developed so much more power due to the modifications they made inside. He broke the track record at Indy by 17 Miles per hour. Ran away from the field at Milwaukee. As Bobby related it to us, they went over that car with a fine-tooth comb, could not find anything. That car was so much faster than anyone else. They looked and looked and looked. “To tell you the truth, I was not running it wide open, just playing with them”. “Had um all covered” We sent the Turbo back to be rebuilt. I’m at my desk and Parnelli calls, all upset. He calls me a cheat, a low life, a rat, a no good and keeps going on and on. Finally, I asked what I had done? We just got your turbo back, by mistake and put it on the dyno, it has more horsepower than we have ever seen. You better give back all that money and the trophy’s. Bobby figured the “shipping mistake” was on purpose to even the field. RIP. You will be missed. They don’t make them like you anymore.
