I found a good use for a broken crankshaft today.

Any benefit from the exhaust thrust is cancelled by the additional weight, oh, but the sound....

  5. Actually, with the firing order of 1-2-4-3. "Tuned Exhaust" is NOT accomplished with merging 1 & 4 primaries. and 2 & 3 primaries. Such configuration, according to Ricardo's studies are for a 1-4-3-2 order. Exhaust Tuning is basically calculated using the firing order, size of the cylinder volume, power & torque curve of the engine (usually dictated by valve timing), and cross-section of the primaries. Example: if I were to put a "Tuned Exhaust" on MY engine (which I have not); I would have to bring primaries 42 inches long for 1 and 2 cylinders and merge them in a "Collector" with cylinders 3 & 4! This would probably give exhaust extraction beginning at between 4000 & 5000 r.p.m. The phenonium is that each individual exhaust charge pulls the next in behind it!

  8. John,
that firing order would require a different crankshaft and the order would be 1,4,2,3

I wonder if exhaust tuning to help pull the intake charge into the cylinder `works with the Siamese intake port ❓

My 4 into 1 header i made with my dad follows the firing order [IMG][IMG]
It wasn't practical to make them equal length due to being right hand drive and having an oil filter, but I think it has a unique sound for a banger

@Star 351 - that's a nice looking header, RHD looks a pain to work around!
