Anyone else old enough to remember putting squirrel tails on the antenna? Raccoon tails too. Even saw a pair of lady's pants on one! Kind of a trophy or conquest.? Red fender skirts, after market hood ornaments too.

  3. I had one on my 68 Firebird, because Huey Duey and Louie had one on their A roadster that they were driving when they were trying to steal Gas from Uncle Donald. This was in the 90s and no one got it but my Dad and I.

    FYI
The tails blow off around 90 mph.
I had a tiger gas tank tail. GONE in one day!

That probably ended up on the back of a stingray bicycle..
About like the Enkie Valve caps on my wheels on the 48 back in the early 90's. They lasted about two days before sticky fingers found them.

I can remember stories by guys my dad's age of stopping and cutting the tail off a road kill racoon on the side of the road when they were younger. To this day if I pass a racoon that has been hit I look to see if it still has it's tail but I am not going to stop and cut one off.

I remember some of the guys had their high school graduation tassel on the interior rear view mirror. More recent than the 50's were Styrofoam round 76 gas balls stuck on the car antenna.

I had my high school graduation tassel on the rear view mirror of my high school car, a 34 sedan. Cool until I cranked the windshield open. The wind destroyed it.

No photos but l remember when l was in high school a guy with a 50 Ford had taken out the big bullet in the grille and replaced it with a large radio speaker so everyone could enjoy the tunes from his AM radio. Cool

When I was a teen driver the big deal was to have a garter belt hanging from the rearview mirror. Kinda like a trophy. I've had my wife's garter from our wedding in the 70's hanging in one of my hotrods ever since. Been in my old Austin gasser the last 11 years.

  24. We called the squirrel tails "Tennessee Go Fasters" Good for at least 10 or 15 MPH

  25. Another thing we did was slip a glove on an antenna with the mast going in the middle finger.

They were 'coon tails! Ala Davey Crockett. In the late 60's the car culture went crazy for the Union 76 balls, smiley faces, Florida orange balls and the famous Chicago radio station had their own WLS yellow foam balls. Then came retractable radio antennas... game over.

I'm a Wisconsin guy, Started driving 1964, 1957 Chevy. Fuzzy Dice back then, still have them in my 51 Merc now. High school graduation tassel, girl friends garter, Sun tachometer on dash or steering column, floor shift kit, Hurst the preferred kit, 3 Gage panel under dash, oil-water-amp, glass packs, baby moons, recap street slicks. I have great memories from those days, most of my life all good memories/fun. Have stated many times, I'm a very lucky fortunate man.
