Ok Fellas- My 'ol coupe will be getting a new stance, motor freshen and new wheels/tires in the next 2 years. The white walls are 20 year old radials and not safe. I go back and forth about what to do. So, if the HAMB has an abundance of anything, it's opinions. Have at it! What say you? Mind you, I'm posting on the HAMB, not www.billetrulezzzz.com so keep your modern wheel choices to yourself. Any traditional wheel and tire combo is fair game. Try to imagine it 'in the weeds', because that's where it'll be when I'm done, no more 4x4.
Dan I really like the look you are planning, always have. The "gasser look" has had its day in the sun in my opinion and it's getting harder and harder to come up with a fresh idea. The five spokes on this car really give it a timeless look, it has the perfect stance, and doesn't have that "trying too hard" image.
More info needed. What do you want the car to be? Hot rod? Custom? For hot rods, hard to beat 5-spokes or Halibrands on big-n-little black-walls. And chromed reversed on either black-walls or thin whites. The car isn't really a custom, but the Olds caps and white-walls look great.
Big and little painted steelies. No caps. Look at @Ryan 38. wide in back with cheaters and some 155s in front with the nose in the weeds. Simple and timeless. You can do it in WWW like this pic or blackwall
OEM style chrome's, NO SMOOTHIES, wide whites about the size of stock tires in the early 60s, like maybe 2" plus a little. Pinners are to close to lowrider bomb, which is kool AF, but not for a hot rod vibe. Past that I'll stand in the TQ Thrust line too. Naturals with polished rims. You gotta pick the tire tho...
All good suggestions so far... I don't want to taint the well, but Halibrand sprints are high on my list.
Steel Wheels with Olds or Some 55 Chrysler caps would look good. 5.60 or 6.0 X 15 white wall Firestones on the front and 8.20 X 15 White wall Firestones on the back. It will fill the wheel wells like it did on my 39.
The cool thing about running hubcaps that all fit on a set of wheels is you can change hubcaps for a bit of a different look in a few minutes. Flippers one day, Buick caps the next, moons and rings on Thursday night at cruise night.
Also what era you want. I am more of a late-60's guy. As Jim Bouchard said, ET-III's are freakin' awesome. Barry Lobeck would have agreed. But not for every taste.
The budget is not unlimited, but I’m willing to step up because this car is the long term keeper. So, not looking to spend magnesium Halibrand money, but not cheaping out either. Clear as mud? Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Cast myself. Or, If I did polished I have a couple hues I would do in anodizing or cerakote. Did some OT wheels in a hard ano and they come out a beautiful dark gray Hard anodizing center and right
