I'm glad to see this thread brought back up. It's one of my favorites. I took the more lazy & expensive route by calling 1-800 So-Cal buick drums w/ Willwood discs. Your drawings are fantastic.

The louvers came from a hood off of a farm implement, I welded them in. I picked the finned drum covers up at a swap meet for cheap money. I made another set using a brake drums from a 36 ford, I'll see if I can't get a picture .
I thought I would give it a shot with a pair of junk Buick drums I had. It took some time to lathe out the old cast liner but I got it done. something different and cool!!.
That really makes the front suspension look smooth and like was said its not trying to hide, cheat or fake it clearly shows the car has discs but better looking ones.. Nice job..
Checking "out in the weeds" variation on the theme. Now I'm interested......... OP and the Buick looking ones are just the nuts! I'm having serious doubt as to my ability to stop my Vick with early Ford brakes. This may be the solution. Thanks guys for the excellent muse!
I would be concerned with this mod blocking the air flow from vented discs, leading to over heated brakes.
They might help some, but heat rises, those vents are in the lower half, I think they're better for looks than for cooling. Ventilated discs expel heat from the center out, the cover blocks that heat from flowing freely. It's probably not a problem for the vast majority of us, unless you do a lot of mountain driving. But losing brakes due to heat is an experience I'd rather not ever have again.

Ty isn't on here very often . If you look at post #72 this will give you an Idea what he did, only he used Buick drums and machined out the centers and the steel inserts for the brakes. This helped reduce the weight.
I did a tech post years ago when I built some for my sedan. I think the thread was called fake brakes.
Question are the front and rear backing plates the same concerning bolt circle hole locations large hole diameter ? Or front specific backing plates needed to do this modification ?
I'm 99% sure the only difference in front and back juice backing plates is the provision on the rears for a parking brake cable.
