I had a wacky idea of doing a radical custom pickup using a 57-60 f100 cab, a 58 Impala roof and a 60 Olds trunk for the box and body line. I still need ideas for the hood and grille. What Im looking for is examples of photos like the Car Craft Dream Rod with the laid back slant of the cab back or what will be the Impalas C-pillar.

Anyone else have any examples of other older customs with the laid back look? Screenshot_20210415-000755_Chrome.jpg Screenshot_20210414-190406_Gallery.jpg

that is not a Barris car, that is a mistake on the card. The car is the Car Craft Dream rod built in 63 by Bill Cushenbery, I own it. The roof is from a 56 studebaker and the rear window is from a 57 Borgward Isabella town sedan (upside down)

6 hours later, the owner of the actual car chimes in. Which, in the title(the name of the car) is incorrect. That`s why you gotta love this place.

I got some pics and and info so far. Hopefully I'll get some more pics from people. I didn't really know how to Title the thread because its hard to explain. Probably could have worded it better. Im just trying to get some ideas because I can only see so much in my minds eye.

Tough to ruin your own thread;). But hey, you are getting a vision of what you want. Keep writing it down or have someone with a knack for doing that, get it planted in your mind and on paper. After that it all depends of the skills you have to pull it off.
Been some great custom builds here, things I look at and just blow my mind.
Better to spend your time in the shop/garage/etc try to accomplish something, than knocking them back in the local Tavern;)

There was an old Monogram model kit of a custom pickup with a bubble top. I think it was also full size, built be Darryl Starbird. It was a '60's Chevy pickup cab. Sorry I don't have a pic.

I consider it a priveledge that he shares his crazy amount of knowledge with us here on the HAMB. And the collection of...basically the history of kustom cars...is just amazing.

Back to hot rods and customs.

    Yep. Its my creative outlet.

Im not much of an artist, but I tgink i can get across a look just well enough.o_O:D

I whipped that sketch up real quick last nite so the proportions are way off. Probably will need to chop the top some more.....shorten/lengthen bed.....adjust wheelbase....etc until it gets just right

All I've got is a link to this build, which doesn't share a whole lot with your idea other than it utilizes a hardtop roof without the rear glass in a somewhat similar way to your Impala roof.

The world needs more customs, so I'm all for this project. I do wonder how far you'll have to thin the Chevy pillar to get it to mount to the Ford cab, without having a "knee knocker" on both sides of the door. It's either that, or stretch the back part of the cab to the width of the Chevy pillar.

I like this crazy idea and was inspired to doodle the sketches posted below. I agree with Squablow that the Impala pillar isn't going to mate with the truck cab without some serious slicing.
When I look at successful 60s customs vs 2000s-era "truck rodz" one thing stands out: get it low, flat (sectioned?) and proportioned well, and you'll be miles ahead of the guys who just start with a cab and try to tack stuff onto it. Unless the sparseness of a T-bucket is what you're going for, in which case lean way into it with the boxy, upright theme.

Back before most of us knew what English wheels and planishing hammers were a lot of customs got built with a mixed bag of donor parts.

I love everyones ideas and input! This is sooo cooool!!!

@Spex84 In my mind I have the concept of these two examples from your sketches combined. These sketches are totally awesome!

Open engine bay, with the cab and a shorter box behind it. A pod style grille with a 61-63 Chrysler 300 series crossbar and 59 Ford grille stars. I really like the rear cascading dual headlights in one of the sketches.

    So cool!
