Going into my ‘37 Chevy. Shown with 235 being extracted.

Not super hot, but warmed up a bit. 250 Chevy with light overbore, torquer cam, full roller rockers, ‘lump port’ modded head, cast ‘header’ manifolds, Aussiespeed intake with Edelbrock AVS2 4 bbl, Pertronix distributor. Break in run on dyno and produced 228 hp/256 lbs ft. @ 4800 rpm. Backed by 2004R / 8.8” (3.73 LSD).

    Adequate for my purposes.

  4. Wish I had a pic,
261 full pressure oiling engine with pcv out of a 59 Chevy dump truck

Solid lifter with a cam, offey 3 carb intake with zenith carbs
    Offey valve and side covers
    Fenton exhaust
    Tach drive distributor
    Hildebrant oil filter housing
All detailed and fancy mated to a t5
    Just awsome engine.

had a ton of money into it but would build another in a heart beat.

In my 53 Chrysler with flat head 6 had a duel carb set up with ball and ball carbs and split exhaust.
Was told it was a factory set up off a big truck that was used for the city of Hamilton.
Great running engine and actually good on fuel.

a v8 is great, but I have always had a soft spot for inline 6 engines.

there have been some absolutely great ones built and posted here on the Hamb over the years.

as always HRP, you post some pretty interesting threads.

None of these 6 bangers are mine, but I have always had a great appreciation for inline 6 cylinder engines. So I wanted to post a few of my favorite photographs, that I have shot, of some I have seen up close.

Put this 292 in my 74 GMC Stepvan. I’m using it temporarily until I can rebuild the stock V8. Probably gonna throw the 292 in something else after that. It’s reliable and l like having it as a backup (but need the HP of my V8 in the Stepvan.).

  7. When I was in High School my friend Rod had a 1966 Mustang and it appeared stone stock, but under the hood was a hopped up inline six, the engine wasn't fancy and was void of any shinny bits & pieces, but had a header and six small carburetors, the person responsible for the set up was unknown and Rod's day bought the Mustang for Rod from a fellow that was in the navy with Rods dad.

That Mustang ran great for a couple of years but after a while trying to keep all the carburetors happy Rod ended up swapping the intake out for a conventional intake.. HRP

  8. The only time this one is HOT is when climbing up 70 west bound on a warmer day ! Starts right up, idles smooth but I can probably run faster. Mitch. 20180218_172934.jpg

I've posted it before, but here's an ole school bus engine I massaged a little bit a few years ago and stuffed into a 54 Chevy sedan. It's now running around Seattle somewhere.

With mine, I had to piece together and partially fabricate an offset air cleaner because the well was too close to the carb. And finding stock power steering brackets for a 292 has been a nightmare. Recently obtained some though cheap after searching for almost a year... The aftermarket stuff was too costly or required other mods which wouldn’t work in my Stepvan.

Not hot by any means, but maybe one day. 300 Ford inline six in a model t. It has a flip top body and a removable firewall so I can get to the back two cylinders.

My old 1948 GM Holden (FX) from late 70s, early 80s. Local GM engine appeared to be a scaled down version of larger Chevy I6. Triple side draft SU carbs, headers, 4sp muncie, Ford rear.

My 292 in my 48 will pretty well be a cross between Hnstray's 250 as I have the same intake and exhaust and Mr Chevrolet's 292 with the polished aluminum trinkets. I think even my air cleaner matches Hnsray's finned aluminum one or comes real close. The Lump ports just came in last week and I am still deciding on a cam.

Perhaps closer than you think. I also have a buildable 292 and I struggled for some time with the decision about which to build for the ‘37. The balance was tipped by the fact that I have another project or two that could also benefit from the 292 as they are a bit heavier than the ‘37 and the extra cubes/torque would compensate for that. There are also a couple of OT GM twin cam 4.2L inlines in my ‘inventory’ that have excellent potential, but they are a story for a different forum.

    @amodel25

Many decades ago, a close friend told me about a ‘49 Ford Coupe he had owned with the six that he swore would outrun flathead V8s. He had sold the car before we became acquainted, so I did not experience it firsthand and just took his word for it.

However, in later years, recalling that story I looked up the specs on those Flatty sixes and realized the cubic inches (226 IIRC) were not that far off from the V8 (239) and the torque of the six was actually greater than the V8! I have since thought one of them would be fun to play with but none ever popped up in my neighborhood.

Over the years I did have two ‘50 Fords, one was my first car at 14, a Tudor. The second was decades later, a Deluxe Coupe.....both were V8 models. But I have had a few Mopar flathead sixes, 217, 230 and 265 cube models. I like your car.

This is an Algon-injected 292 Chevy that is in a buddy's vintage race car that I'm working on. The block and head are mock-ups for the work I'm doing. I made the headers and air box, as well as a bunch of other stuff on the car. Next up is a better oil pan for oval track racing and setting up the pumps on the front of the engine.

I'm pretty sure the injection is a rare bird...I've never seen another one.

One hot Pontiac 6 was their O H C 6 cyl. from the mid 60s. A friend had one with a 4 speed in a Lemans, what a GR8 car & engine. Nothing sounds better than a split 6...well maybe a flat V8.....

You are correct @Graham08 about the car being the Eddie Miller Jr. lakester, when I was at the Jack Mindenhall gas up a few years back, down at Buelton California, the car was there and it was amazing.
