I knew the spokes were different but I hadn't seen the misspelling. LOL.

 

I figured it out--they were called the Cragar Screamer and I bought them in late '72. Let the "screamer" jokes begin.......

 

Those are aluminum slots, not a 5 spoke like most people associate with Cragars, you see Screamers come up for sale monthly.

 

Were the misspelled wheels the flat spoke newer ones you bought for the o/t chevelle or just a wheel you picked up because of the misspelling ?
Curious of the origin of that wheel.

You would think the casting department wouldn't even have a full set of stamps to make the molds to eliminate the possibility of error.
I know the guys here in Tonawanda would monkey with the casting letters on the big block Chevys, there's a whole run of blocks that say HI PER ASS instead of HI PERF PASS

 

Got a full set for my 42 Chrysler, was never a real fan of them but like the look on this car

 

I have had 1 of them (454 block), this one was at a local engine builder my club was taking a tour of, I really got a kick out of it when I removed the timing chain cover.

I will dissent here. Never liked them but one of my good friends ran them on everything in the 80s. I always thought they looked like cheap copies of a real aluminum or mag wheel. The vibe always feels more late 60, 70s or 80s for me and not something that should be found on a vintage hotrod

 

I'll agree with this. I don't dislike the wheels, I just bought a used set as my second choice when I found that the chrome reverse I really want are backordered five months out. They do look good on the right car... but not every car. But their '64 introduction puts them at the tail end of the 'traditional' cut-off and they were by no means common right away. It was the late '60s when these started showing up in numbers, helped no doubt by Cragar's promotion of them; then it seemed they were everywhere all at once. It always amazed me that in the late '60s/early '70s how many showed up on race cars given how heavy they are. I'm sure free wheels for the major players and/or contingency money had a lot to do with that, but you didn't see many on any cars featured in the mags during '64-65.

Same thing for the Torque Thrust D wheels. Same intro time frame, and designed for a specific use; to clear just-starting-to-appear disc brakes. Again, not commonly seen even back then, it wasn't until AR decided to get back into the five-spoke game that they reappeared in any numbers. I've never quite understood why they picked this design over the more traditional straight-spoke style with the re-introduction. The other manufacturers didn't seem to have any problems building a straight-spoke style that cleared discs....

IMO both of these wheels rightfully belong in the RWL tire era, late '60s and beyond.

I had them on a couple cars over the years. Weight aside, for me they were number three in line after Halibrands and American 5 spokes. I really liked them on some of the gassers in the mid to late sixties.

Yea, I have a set that grace my front end.

 

G/Ts on the back. I put aluminum slots with slicks on when I go racing.

I ran a set on my 1st car in 1976. 15x4 &15x8 SS on '56 4 door 210 red & white wagon. The OP asked if you are running them, not if you like them. Why state anything different at all?
