Progress on the 27 has been really slow the last few months what with running the wife to 8 different doctors, sometimes two different towns in one day for appointments. I've been trying to get my grill done and last week I got a fab shop here in town to roll some fins. Took them a pattern and some 1/4 x 3/4 aluminum. They loaded it in the roller all at the same time and 20 minutes later, I had material for 18 fins and some extras. Day before yesterday, I had the center section rolled and started fitting the outside frame. Yesterday was spent filing the spacer jig to fit and cutting the fins to length. Today, I got the center section fitted, countersunk the holes and tried the fins to see how it's going to work. It's gonna take me a few days of cutting and fitting getting the fins set just right in the grill. 20210401_163711 (1).jpg Once it's welded up and everything's ground, it's going to the powder coaters for the shiniest nickel look I can get. Body color on the T is going to be gloss black 20210401_165749.jpg

IMG_20210401_211031927.jpg IMG_20210401_202514616.jpg finally got the windage tray studs shortened up, and found a bonnified Corvette oilpan. Got the bottom end sealed up at last. Am very stoked.
The next move is the '64 461 heads with 2.02 valves. Need to get it done, roadster season is here!

Thanks! The shell is from a '49 Oliver tractor and is kind of '30's - '40's aerodynamic 20200913_173938.jpg . The original fins were big and went across the opening.

I was wondering what the shell was from. Is there a grooved piece like that on top that covers the wide center strip?

No, the center cover had the name Oliver on it. I thought about having the center milled like the top but the time finding someone who had a mill to make that profile isn't worth it. The top piece allows you access to the radiator cap and I may get the fab shop to roll a plain piece to match up to the new center bar. If I do that, making a cover is a simple thing.[IMG]

No, this pic was taken before we were evacuated, the Flathead in the chassis was under water, but thank god my house was spared.

I fired up our Falcon today for the first time this year. Turned over maybe six times and fired. Of course I had to move my snow blower and shovels out of the way so I could get the car out of the garage. We've owned this car 13 years and it's never failed to start :)

Started it up and let it idle while I was spritzing and rinsing Simple Green all over the engine compartment. Thinking I might clean/sand/paint a little under the hood.

Even if I don't get to painting, I got the fluids moving around, cleaned up a little, and made some noise with it.

  25. Figured I'd go put gas in mine since i got the gauge fixed, guess what? Gauge isn't working  the steering is wonderful now though. Didn't seem to have any back brakes, guess i need to sort that out also.

Fiddled another 1/2 day building a spoon-type gas pedal and homemade throttle cable for my A Coupe. It seems every single task takes longer than I expected. Just about had to be a contortionist to get to the inside of the firewall to TIG tack a couple pivot bracket pieces together at the correct angles, but somehow it turned out although I could barely see what I was doing. Another couple hours to finalize and "tune" the pedal and cable travel to get WOT with the pedal on the floor. Picture only when it's done.

  27. Didn't get to do anything on the car, some miscreant decided to bust the quarter window out of my dually, so after work I went to the local Pick Your Part. Why do we care about this? Because although I left my brain at home (forgot to take pics), who would have thought there would be a 1952(?) Studebaker Champion Starlight Coupe and a 1949 Plymouth Business Coupe (it said 1948, but I own a 1948 Special Deluxe, and that was NOT a '48!) in a high turnover junkyard in 2021! The Stude didn't look too bad overall, but the trunk lid definitely had some major rust in the support structure. I didn't look real close, only had 2 hrs to find and get what I needed. Took a little closer look at the '49, and it wasn't too bad at all, but ALL the trim was gone and also the hood. Too bad it wasn't a '48 with the trim intact, I could have used some of that You! You just never know what you'll run into!

Got the roadster on the trailer for summer storage and make room for my OT driver. Thought it was a good photo op for my new shop Forman. His name is Hemi. That was actually my wife’s idea. IMG_2669.JPG
