I guess any movement is actually twisting the spring and shackles in ways they don’t like.......
An inch or six would probably be achieved without any adverse effects, but the question would first need to be answered:
Why ? and on what type of vehicle ?

Clem it's to see if i can get the trans pan off of the turbo 350 that's in it until I get around to splitting the wishbones. Nothing permanent. its a 39 deluxe coupe. THANKS.

Yes as Adam said I have done the same to change my transmission pan.
Pull down by hand and use a 2 by 4 between your wishbone end and frame.
Splitting mine right now to eliminate this in the future.

Using the one from Pete and Jake’s, the Pete and Jake kit uses the original trans mount holes as a guide.
Axle is out and ready to cut the bones. Need to replace the pan on the trans as well.
    I’ll snap pics

I never even touched one. But I've been looking at some ads for chassis minus engine and transmission, and the ball end of the wishbone is hanging at least 6 in below installed position. I'm thinking you might not even have to "pull" it down.

if the only reason to split the wishbones is to avoid dropping the pan once a year or so, I would recommend leaving the wishbones stock, - handling will still be okay, no engineering to be done on a finished car.
    Personal choice though, - obviously.

And you don't have to pull the pan on a manual transmission. That is what I would change.

    Dooley,
That looks an easy (or should I say - easier than I imagined) solution.
Thanks for showing the photos of your progress.
I split my wishbones and used the same rod ends, and the lock nuts come loose. - I would like to know how you get on with yours. Thanks.

So drilled the remaining holes in the frame for the bracket.
So now I need to cut the end of the ball off per the instructions and spread them with the bracket as a guide. Hopefully this weekend. Then I’ll remove the spring down to the main leaf to use as guide to square the perches to ensure proper shackle alignment and get the bungs welded on. More photos to come.

    @Dooley ,
Thanks for coming back to post your progress.
I would still be interested to know if your lock nuts come loose ?
I was thinking of using locktite on mine, although that’s not really the correct thing to do.
    Possibly a spring washer ?
As the wishbone twists it must loosen the locknuts is what I am thinking.

Maybe drill them for a cotter key and use a castle nut? Or drill the nut , tighten it, then drill through the bolt using the nut as a guide.

The wishbone arms will twist slightly with this setup. May also affect handling. I never split the wishbones. Just drop the ball an inch and your good to go.Just my opinion.
