1962 Rambler Classic 400 with a 343 V8, 4-speed and rear end out of a 1968 Javelin. This is the car Rambler should have built. If somebody would have told me I would be driving one of these one day, I would have told them they were crazier than bat shit. So ugly it's cool..!! 20181025_120739%20(1).jpeg 20180502_113137.jpeg 20180717_161130.jpeg 20180717_124326.jpeg

  2. Mine is an O/T 76 GMC with a 454, 280 comp cam, leakdown lifters, headers, an 800 cfm Quadrajet, and a TH400 with a shift kit. It looks like a farm truck, but is reliable transport and yet goes pretty well. I have stopped trolling, and just like the performance.

My '65 built 383 with a 727 auto. 4250 lbs. 13.8 pass in the quarter on street tires and full exhaust. She runs good for a big girl.

Yes, I used to run 10's, it's much quicker now. Huge BBC with a truck load of nitrous.

  7. My "old buggy" runs pretty good, the engine went 7.30's in a 66 nova, this thing probably weighs a thousand pounds less 355/th350 with a Detroit locker 9 inch

    20160717_130117.jpg

The truck looks like your typical old truck but it has a blown Dart big M based 540 and a matched driveline under the exterior, kinda gets overlooked until I let it rumble.

This is an actual "sleeper" because it could never look fast...ever ...
Bwahahaha  ask a a hot rod guy site a muscle car guy site question and you get @swade41 's answer ;)

No pics but in the early '80's my uncle had a '65 Dodge panel van with a 360 Police Interceptor engine and car 4spd. A real piece of shit and definitely not designed to handle but it did have wide gumballs front and rear as was the style back then...we were cruising a windy country road when a guy in a '70's Stingray pulled up behind so when he had a chance he pulled out to pass, my uncle stomps on it all of a sudden we're doing 100+ mph on this windy road and the 'Vette guy is pissed! you can see him turning red he drops a gear and winds it out, my uncle stabs the gas and we are running neck and neck, almost drifting through the turns. How he kept it on the road is a physics question:confused:...the speedometer needle is just bouncing now and at 12 years of age my life is passing before my eyes...I guess he realised that I was there and slowed up and let the guy pass....I bet that guy sold that 'Vette right after lol!:p[IMG]

The best "sleeper" I EVER saw was at Cruis'in the Coast a few years back. It was a ratty/rusty mid 60's Ford Econoline van!
I didn't get a chance to see under the hood/dogbox but it was definitely a big block with an idle like a Pro Stock!!!:cool:. The ground absolutely vibrated when it was idleing at a traffic light. The only giveaway was the narrowed rear end with matching fat boy rear tires. (and the hi-octane race fuel fumes)

  13. I worked with a guy in Nor Cal in about 1980 that had a '64 Econoline window van. He had a built to the hilt 300" 6 in it. Ran low 11s through the mufflers. About the only thing that gave it away was the pair of Holleys that stuck out of the side of the dog house. :D

Met a guy at a show years ago with a crusty looking Packard that came with a Paxton supercharger from the factory. He said he surprised a lot of people at the lights with it.

This will just make the HAMB cut-off...my '65 Malibu 400...did a z28 302" motor with the L79 outward appearance, turbo 400 and 4:11 rear. All stock interior, buckets but column gear selector. Was huge fun!

I think my ride fits the bill as a sleeper. I sometimes run wire caps on the car and that really adds to the sleeper image. The fact that it's a Corvair has fooled many as well.
The performance numbers are far beyond what they were as delivered.
Top speed over 120mph (speedo only goes to 120).
    Zero-60 happens in high 6s
    Quarter in high 13s
I know these numbers aren't going to set the world on fire but when compared to the stock configuration and most cars from the era they are impressive.
The stock Monza would take 19 seconds to get to 60mph.
This little coupe has thumped a few unsuspecting targets. IMG-20101125-00014.jpg 20190513_125114.jpg 20190430_194459.jpg

  23. Ya plank it. LOL

On the strip I would mash the peddle and leave on the first light. I still had the worlds crappiest reaction time. it is a very old and often not understood theory of displacing more pavement than the vehicle weight. IE the tires are spinning very fast and moving you forward even though the physics of it makes zero sense, you have to be able of thinking outside of the box.

In the pic I am heating the tires prior to staging, my foot is not on the brake. On a normal pass I was still spinning the tires at half track.

^^^Love to have that 65 Chevelle, but that 57 Pontiac even more. Seems he sold the 57 Pontiac (???).^^^ No pics, but my old sleeper was a 63 Chevy II wagon with my spare 327 (340 HP short block with a cam change, 461 X ported/polish heads, 180 degree high rise with a 750 Holley DP carb), one of my own built aluminum Powerglides with a 4500 stall converter, and the stock 4 bolt rear end, with specially made Moser axles. It even still had the extremely marginal, stock brakes, that were the really scary thing about the car. It was also a little rusty in spots, a few dents, and faded paint. 14 inch aluminum slotted wheels, with as tall a tire as I could fit on the front, and the biggest tire I could get in the rear. Coil wrapped overload shocks front and rear, slapper bars, and the spare tire well filled with concrete (for the weight). Built it just as a street racer/sleeper, especially for the 5.0 Mustang and Z-28 Camaro guys. Wound up selling the rolling body (less engine/trans) to a friend, who wrecked it after owning it for only a few weeks; again, those terrible brakes, that caused the wreck. He put the car in a ditch, tore up the undercarriage, and entire right side of the car. He let the hunk hauler take the car away before I could pull the third member and axles. That car had perfect floors, the best I've ever seen in a Chevy II. Building another sleeper now, but it's an OT car with a BBC/TH400/12 bolt, and four doors! I am Butch/56sedandelivery.

Yup, but gonna be 318 with 302 heads and no 500 hp. This trucks frame would sure need some beefing up for that...
