I am a huge fan of the first gen Riviera and i have found one finally that is a project and in my price range. It is registered as a 65 and is has all the characteristics of a 65. The 65 bumper with the tail lights, there are no fake scoops behind the doors, from the pics i received from the seller, i cant tell the motor or if the interior is 64 or 65. The issue is, it has a 64 front end. Double headlights in the grill and im not sure if the fenders are 64 or 65. (I dont know what to look for) I was told by a not so reliable source, that there was a split year possibly, early 65 with a 64 front end? Has anyone everheard of this? 65 riviera ca..PNG 65 riviera ca.PNG

Hard to say without seeing it, but I'd guess either the car got wrecked and they put a '64 front clip on it, or someone got sick of the clamshells not working and stuck a '64 grille in it. The "split year" thing sounds like bullshit but I could be wrong.

I've never heard of a split year Riv... I have, however, heard countless stories of people putting earlier front-ends on '65s due to accidents or owners tiring of adjusting the clamshells on the 65.

My friend used to run Riv's like those. He said all 3 years the fenders are different. 63 and 64 can work with each other. 65 is all by itself. The shape in the front is different for the headlights. He always said the 65 was the best but not much interchanged with the other years. It might look the same. I have no knowledge of them, but he had a bunch of them over the years.

Well, west coast is a long ways up and down. You might be concerned someone will buy it out from under you, I get that.
I think I’d still fly in for that distance tho;)

True, its just that i have to walk that fine line on whether a flight to see it is worth it on a cheaper non running car. If i was paying 20k for sure. Im hoping to find something a little closer this spring

"I am a huge fan of the first gen Riviera". Wouldn't that be a second gen Riv, as the first Riviera was in 1949.

  17. I used to own the opposite, a 64 body with a 65 front end. Now I want another 64-65 Riviera, not a fan of the 63 with dynaflow transmission.

It has a 63 trunk lid on it. 63 has all Buick emblems, and 64/65 have all Riviera ones. Looks like a mismatch of parts. 65 fenders are different as well.

    65 would have a 401 engine and a 64 would have the 425

Beautiful but 2 things wrong with that. 64, and more money than I want to spend. I'm looking for a 65 project. Love these cars though
