Projects 1936 Ford Ute custom

Parts for creating maybe. Mother Nature needs to behave so we can get the ice out of the shop and get working on walls, insulation and heat. Camper life is fun below zero Fahrenheit.

 

I have never been a fan of the stock taillight on a stick look of the early Fords as a custom. These Studebaker taillights should do the trick and mimic the round lens of the 36 headlights. Trying to keep this looking like it could have been scrounged together as a sleek prewar custom Subtle, with early parts

 

A couple of pics of the Grande Roadster that Hollywood Hotrods is building. I love the leaned back grille to match the angle of the hood louvers and the fenders pushed forward to get rid of the overbite look of the grille being ahead of the fenders. Design ideas that I had in my head but already in metal on this one. I will however be going with a much more subtle wheelbase change. I just basically want to clean up the line without being a total phantom build.

 

Now to find the gauges to fill the holes. Debating the height of the glove boxes shrinking to fit the scale of the Ford versus the Packard. Meanwhile, the shop is coming along and should be getting the house part wired next week. Then on to the shop wiring when I get the liner up.

 

$2500. Ouch. Hopefully I can find a set a bit more reasonable, but I doubt it with my luck.

I hope you have a long attention span. This one may take awhile but will be worth the wait I hope.

 

On the plus side I see a flicker of light at the end of the tunnel on the new shop/living quarters.

Did you find a Cadillac flathead for it yet? Maybe a Lincoln flathead v-8 would do the job, more cubes than the Ford though not as many as the Caddie.

It’s the 322 Baby Cad. I have the complete set Radiator, engine, trans, driveshaft, and rearend out of a 1936 Cadillac

 

Is there anything else? I don't see any reason to not build new shop with it. Even if you only put the tubes in, at least they are there if you choose to down the road. Once you have heated floors you will never not want them.

Did I mention the shop will be air conditioned as well? I figure this will be my last new place. May as well make it a good place.

In response, Ford designer Lew Bandt developed a vehicle based on the client's request and the model (called a "coupe utility" at the time) was released in 1934." Don't buy into this BULLSHIT, this is just Henry ford promoting himself again. The Ute's were originally built by "Holden" which was purchased by GM. Most Ute's before 1932 were open air roadsters, The first enclosed cab Ute was a 1929 Pontiac, I have have pictures of a 1927 Chevrolet Ute and others, Like Studebaker, DeSoto & Willy's. The Farmers wife story is BS unless the Farmers wife also wrote to GM, because I have seen pictures of 1932 Chevrolet Ute also. Henry had a bad habit of taking credit for other peoples inventions, Like the retractible hard top, Which was invented by Pugeot in 1939 !

 

Waiting on the shop but I do have a full 1936 Cadillac drivetrain including grille, shell, radiator, engine, trans, driveshaft, and rear end. I wonder what all would work? Also thinking about skirt ideas.

 

My Australian shepherd we have had for 11 years passed away unexpectedly a few days back and look what shows up on an exotic auction this weekend. Hmmmm.

Just need to have a few items they can play with. Same as with a puppy.

 

I figure she is just like most critters like that. Hand raised or not they all grow up and still act like adults. Maybe a bit tamer but not a house pet. I think this one may have been zoo raised or something as they have lots of pictures with groups of kids.

 

Regarding the recent "name your car" thread, it seems we've discovered the name for your ute. Call it Joey. Cute little thing with a built in pouch.

This is one of 267 of this particular body style. It is pretty far gone for a full blown resto. This is also a case where I don't think rare and high dollar are one and the same. The Utes I have seen past sales on didn't bring huge money so I may as well have fun and build a unique custom.

New Australian chick in my life, shouse progress, and Zoot Ute teasers. I can’t wait to get on this project. It is currently 5th in line. Hopefully the first 4 move through rather quickly once the shop is running again.
