been collecting parts for a while to convert my 61 impala from an automatic to a 4 speed. One of the last difficult parts was the Z bar. Skip from French lake saw my ad and had a stick shift 60 that just came in ( the z bar is the same on 60 and 61) it was 63 degrees today so I went out and grabbed it. Here is my impala for those that don’t know.

Here is the 60 I removed the zbar from

Quite a "junk" yard! Cool that you found what you were looking for. Wouldn't hurt one bit though to get the cars up off the ground though, would it?

I have/had one of those Z bars in the shop somewhere's... been digging and can't find it, glad Skip came through for you. Bucket list to walk his yard someday.

  7. French Lake! There is no substitute. I was on a business trip, had a day off drove the two hours out to FL...somewhere up near Buffalo MN is a private museum full of 32 Fords and glass gas pumps. Great collection there.

  9. I have heard about the place for years. It looks like there is quite a nice selection of parts to be had there. Thanks for posting.

And now you are in shape to run a marathon after walking around with 40 pounds of mud on your boots! French lake is always a fun place to visit, even more fun when its dry. But, dont wait too long or the skeeters will carry you away!

I bought a couple of Austin 4-door Devons from French Lake a few years ago. One 90% complete car that I am stealing parts off of for my Austin 2-door Dorset . And a shell that I cut the roof off of and saved in case I ever get the itch to chop my Dorset.

In this day and age it’s hard to find that many old cars. F L is well laid out, new cars coming in all the time, fair prices and great people too boot.

I’ve been helped out by FL. Also got a cool sticker with my purchase! If you’ve been there, you won’t forget it.

I have lusted over that place online for a few years now . According to google i am about 6.5 hours away. Retireing first of May , sounds like a good time for a road trip. All the yards like that around my area aside from Carl Chase up north of Mauston have been crushed out years ago. Carl has a lot of stuff but have not been there for years. If you did not catch Carl in a good mood it was not a good day! Good day = good deals , bad mood days= not so good deals! And since he is older than me ,he is probley really grumpy now days if he is even still around! Larry

When the Fahrner Outer limits corvette was auctioned by RM for the Petersen museum about 5 or so years back I was a phone bidder. I had given myself a 40,000 dollar limit and I think I bid it to 43 grand. It sold for the next bid I think 44 or 45 grand. I love the car and really wanted to get it and return it to its mid 60's version. I really hate the modern stuff that was done to it. My friend Jack Walker (hirohata merc clone) knew the guy that did the last build on it. and something many people do not know is that sometime in the past the hood for the car was lost. The guy that did the last build was a woodworker and made a hood for it out of wood. The whole reason the hood is on those goofy 4 place screw jacks is that it turned into a potato chip shape and wouldn't fit, so those jacks hold it in place, The amount of things that got modified and need reversal in my opinion make it financial suicide for me to have bought it for 45 grand let alone the 75 they want for it now. I don't know how many times it has changed hands since but it has been for sale at least a half dozen times since. It makes me laugh to see the comments on the barn find site by the idiot corvette people on how a precious split window has been ruined... That whole split window deal has always bothered me, every single 63 corvette coupe produced was a split window... people make it seem like it was some rare option or something. LOL Sorry for the rant at the end, off my soapbox now....

those pictures are the tip of the iceberg . over 100 acres of cars from the 20's and up. The Nolan family has owned and operated the yard since the mid fifties. It is owned by Hamb member @396skip

  26. George Barris sold a conversion kit to replace the split window with a 1 piece rear window. I wonder how many people did the conversion, and regretted it later.
