Stuck in a rut here because of the deep freeze we're having, I can't paint the '63 Corvette or the '39 Ford I'm working on. I've had this '49 Merc for well over 20 years and just can't get worked up about it. I pull it out of the closet, look at it, maybe shave some flash off small parts and then stick it away again. Maybe it's time to finish it but one thing for sure, those Eagle ZR40 tires aren't going to work!
mchook... your Lincoln tow truck build will be quite interesting , especially if you include some of the gangster hardware thats included in that kit. Sent from my SM-T387V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I dug out this old 57 Ford that my uncle built. As a kid I liked his model’s. So years ago he gave me a call. He asked if I wanted his old model cars that he found in his attic. He remembered how much I liked them. I’m gonna just cleaned it up, and glued the parts back on. Notice the dome light, that he made from a Christmas tree light. Here’s an update on the 32 sedan I am chopping. I can still see the seams in places, but I think it’s as good as it’s going to get. The A pillars are rough. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Thanks, I didn't even think about the extras in the kit. Now to come up with a reason to use them. Maybe the tow truck will be hauling another car full of bullet holes from a mob hit?
I cleaned up my uncles old model, and got the parts glued back on. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
@mchook, great model coming together here. Realistic....plus, nothing shiny here! Well, maybe the FI unit is clean. I could imagine though, this motor in that rig was the dude's pride and joy! Excellent work truck!
man life has got in the way big time, but after working on this combo for a month it's finally finished.I had seen a photo of the same combo from pics taken from the 2019 Jabbeke model car contest and decided to do a copy only reverse the color combo.Using the Revell Foose '56 Ford pickup and the AMT Speedboat this is what was made. This is the best I can do pic wise. Wife went shopping at Joann fabric and came home with the chain, looks scale to me Thanks for looking and Happy Modeling !
I got a bit of work done on my "It's not a Ute" build. After looking at the pics I posted of it earlier I didn't like the roof line....so I lowered it and stretched it a little . The window frame went bad ,I broke it, new ones on the way. Also while digging through my parts boxes , I set some parts aside to see what I could put together with them... Basically a old black widow RPU ,shortened the bed, added full fenders , rolled the rear ones making them taller and bobbed, big and little tires with home built wheels, still got to finish it up ....I was shooting for the image of a wild little drag truck and it seemed to be going in that direction.....then I painted it..in the black primer ...looking nasty wild....shot it with some dark black cherry and clear coat then the tan upholstery....it went from nasty wild to limp dick ..don't know but something about them colors are just not doing it on that truck...maybe its just me but them colors just mellowed it right out...visually. Plus it looks brown under the lights. Maybe I will put some cup holders in it also. Sent from my SM-T387V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I'm glad to see Rudestude and McHook got things rolling early. Since I failed in my attempt to get one finished for today, I just had to post something. Here are four previously unposted pics. (Is unposted really even a word?)
Blizzard conditions here in Texas, so I’m working on the 32 drag sedan. Blown Olds and wheels from the Stone, Woods and Cook Willys. AMT parts pack MH racemaster slicks. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Quick85... There is no such word as failure when your doing something for fun. If there were, I would of probably never got any of mine done. An example being the little roadster truck I just posted.. , . not happy with my paint choice, in my eye's it just looks all wrong, but I'm finishing it up and moving on. I will admit though , years back I would smashed it. I'm much calmer now , with nothing to prove to anyone it's all about having fun. Sent from my SM-T387V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Anyone seen this guy's work? Quite impressive... to say the least! http://www.westside-59.com/Model-Neighborhood.htm
My dad was a Firefighter so we got preached on how bad it was to play with fire....but when I was 17, I started a fire that I will never forget......it was me..not deliberately...I started a brush debris fire for my grandfather using gasoline, when I stepped back I knocked over the can of gas and....well I ended up with second and third degree burns over 30% of my body, face ,chest, arms ... and you know the one thing that came through loud and clear over the sounds of me sizzling like a piece of bacon on a frying pan was my dad....drop and roll..drop and roll. But back to the model destruction.....my brother and I used bb guns on ours. Sent from my SM-T387V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
No fireworks or fire on my part, they just seemed to disappear. I imagine some of it was my parents "cleaning up" things for me. I also imagine I gave a few away. So it hurts to see vintage trash on ebay for big bucks. Maybe Rudestude saw the AMT '60 Comet that just sold at $50.00 on ebay. I wanted that one badly and forgot about it, obviously losing the auction. I had one as a kid and I'd have gone the $50 on this one. $150.00 would've been a different story.
I did see that one...I am just amazed at how much money fully assembled models are bringing . I have got a couple of built models in some of my ebay buys but they were glue bombs that came with the boxes and had some extra parts . And I will normally keep it under $25 unless its one that has good potential to be restored or is more valuable to me for parts. My favorite ones are the 3 in 1 kits that has been opened box and started assembly and it has all of its extra hot rod or custom parts included. There was one that showed up on ebay the other night that I would like to have 62 Pontiac Bonneville, I know they have the Catalina release, I have one of them ,but I really want the Bonneville. I just about put a bid in then saw it was just the box with the instruction sheet and body only, no bid...then later I was looking in the parts category and there was the rest of the kit being sold in individual pieces....after looking closer there was several people selling them that way....crazy. I know you get more money that way but you also end up with alot of stuff that doesn't sell ..I guess? I know of guys that do that with Corvette's and other desirable makes, take a complete nice car and sell it as parts only ..if you got the space and time . I don't know if I've yet to see a 3 in1 or Craftsman kit at $25.00. Guys are nuts with their prices. A good point you brought up is that posting boxes and "partial" kits nonsense. I've almost gotten tripped up on both. I hate the fact that guys are trying to slide things past us for the sake of a few dollars. I personally can't try to stiff people out of their money. A sucker may have been born every minute but that doesn't mean you have to take advantage of that. Right now on ebay is a '62-63 Cutlass, molded in blue. There are exploded photos of the kit and it looks good. The seller, though, doesn't mention the warped right front fender that could easily be missed in the pic. I came this close to bidding $50 on it and only then did I notice the warp. I've got to stop wanting things badly!
This fellow has a wonderful technique and I do believe anyone who posts a finished model could benefit...I know that those that look do. Last summer I became acquainted with the technique, called "image projection". So easy once you get the "street" right, and the size of the base....then the background. Not difficult. Also---his model cars are sensational!
UPDATE; Some motor work underway now. The blower and other bolt on parts need work. Brass back plate for the gear cover, the modeled-in bolts for the blower were shaved off and now prepped for individual bolts. Fuel lines for the manifold.... Moving forward now.... Mike..
That is one wicked looking sedan....the gold that you used what is that , if you don't mind that I ask. Also what is your color choice for the body? I tell you with the gold engine and wheels ...just a thought....pearl jade green or candy jade green with a gold base. Your chop looks great with the stance engine and tire and wheel choice.
