Projects Not a purist 35 dodge pickup

Hello everyone. Just waned to introduce myself to the group by showing my latest personal project. I have a hot rod shop in Maryland and deal with a lot of NHRA race car stuff. ( I race a comp car and a blown pro mod out of my shop) I picked up this '35 Dodge cab last year and want to do a quick turn but traditional ride. I have a 241 Dodge hemi for it and a grille shell but that's about it. I am not building a "rat rod" but a clean cool driver I can motor my son in to drop him off in the school carpool line. haha.
Here is my question as I start gathering pieces for it. Are people going to hate me if I put a '34 Ford frame under it? There are so many ways to move that project together quickly that way versus searching for a Dodge frame/building a custom frame, etc. It will get dropped front axle/quick change rear etc. I have to think about customer work as well, so once I start it , I need to go together with it and get it out the door quickly. So are people going to throw rocks at me for blending the two brands and bolting on commonly found pieces on this thing? Not sure I care that much but just curious about opinions.
Either way I will go ahead and post the build thread here for you all to see.

I thought Dodge pickups came in '36/37 but I may be confusing that with Fargos.
Now about your hybrid plans I say go for it. Get it on the road and have fun. Remember that th eDodge brothers originally worked for Ford and then went their separate way. I'd name your truck "Reunion"!

Its a suicide door truck . I was told that is '35. I could be wrong though. I'm tall at 6'4" so I will likely leave it unchopped.. It looks chopped anyway even with factory lines. With the channel it will likely be tight.

 

I say the more ford in something the better.

 

The Dodge suicide door trucks are 33 to early 35. I have 2 cabs and also a 34 Dodge coupe. My coupe is just sitting on a 34 Ford frame while I build the Dodge frame. I like the IFS of the 34 Dodge frames. With that said, the 34 Ford frame is almost a perfect fit. Won't take much to make it fit. Build it and enjoy. I'm with you on an early Hemi too. I have a 241 I'll be installing in my coupe.

 

Do it. The real tradition in "traditional" hot rodding was to make the best car you could out of whatever you could get your hands on. All the brand loyalty and period snootiness was created by people nostalgic for a time before they were born.

 

Yeah. I looked at the blueprint dimensions of the '34 frame and with the channel I think we will be ok. With so little to start with ( only a cab and a grille shell) I will be looking forever to find a bunch of original parts for it to make it original looking. Just want a hood, hood sides, splash aprons, and a bed

 

Using what you have to build a hot rod it as period correct as it gets!

Ed Iskenderian used an Essex frame under his T roadster.

 

Mixing and matching parts together is part of the hotrodding experience; go for it, and keep us posted on your project!

I'm putting 1 model A window regulator in my 33 plymouth, I ain't going to tell anybody though. Going to be a nice build, can't wait to see the progress.

 

I new a guy that put a 57 Chevy frame under a 66 Fairlane once, oops bad example, that car made my skin crawl. Lol

 

You can call it your MoFo truck....

 

As long as you don't put it on a Ford Ranger frame !

I have used him also. Great dodge expert. Also the dodge pickup/trucks changed from suicide doors about mid year of 1935.

Every GREAT vehicle has some Ford parts in them! Look how many shivrolas have Ford 9" rear ends in them.
