  6. Another cool car with history that Richard posted. I don't know how I missed it. This goes to show you that guys that like/own lowriders don't only build lowriders. I say this Impala definitely tips the scales to the custom side. It was built by Alexander Ruelas of the legendary Los Angeles chapter of the Dukes Car Club.
I've always loved this car. If I'm not mistaken it was once a Lowrider Magazine feature car. Here are a few other shots I have of it, including a rare shot of it "in the works" complete with bare metal and primer spots! E

Does the painted grille on this Caddy take it out of being a true traditional kustom? I always feel that painted brightwork like this is more of an '80s thing.

Are there examples of that from back in the heyday of customizing? tapatalk_1612748986183.jpeg

I see what you're saying, similar in color, Caddy dagmar bumpers, etc ... but 40StudeDude and his brother Dan are two of the many guys I look up to BECAUSE if their car is ever on a trailer, you know it is broken. Salute to all those HAMBers that build 'em and drive 'em!

Hi Peanut, I feel Kustom are an art form and subject to one’s interpretation of what you could do to make a car look better than the original design the factory did, hence chopping a 50 Merc for example. I would say that in all my research before I built my car that I was going for a period correct era. You bring up the 80s, it was very common in hot rods and Eve and in the off-road road world to paint bumpers and grills etc. all the same color as the car, monotones style. So when you say you’re looking for custom back in the heyday, maybe take a look at a specific era and then it will become more clear
