Technical What is your carburetor of choice?

2 Barrel or 4 barrel? original or aftermarket? HRP

4 barrel. Summit sells a carb that is their version of a holly, is very good carb

 

Autolite 2Vs, 2100 or 2150 series.
They are available in many different sizes (cfms) and are far superior to the more popular brand.

Like the lady in the barbecue sauce commercial,
"I put that s**t on everything."

As far as the two barrel I have had good luck with the Holley 94's it worked well on the 4 banger. HRP

The purpose of this thread was inspired by a fellow member that is afraid to post on this site, he said he had ask a couple of serious questions in the past and got a lot of asinine replies and very little help, I told him that I don't let the naysayers bother me at all and I would be happy to post his question hopefully he will be able to make a decision by what fellow hamber's feel work best for them.

So bring it on, your replies can help a fellow member or not. HRP

 

I have used several carbs depending on the car. Mysterion used 6 Stromberg Bendix WW 2bbl, '59 Elky used Rochester Quadrajet, 53 Chevy pickup used Holley 390, Willys runs a Holley 3bbl.

 

Maybe if you friend payed attention to the site he would have read many of the multiple threads about carburetors, pros/cons, favorites, tuning of them, sizes, applications etc. etc.

Does your friend have a specific application that requires a specific recommendation?

Because as it sits, this thread question is about as general and wide open as it could possibly be.

The young man is 22 years old and new to hot rods, I don't personally know him but he reached out to me for information, he doesn't have years of experience and has been a member of the hamb for a few months.

As a new member he is still trying to learn his away around the site it's replies like your's that is exactly what he heard last time he posted, it's been posted many times and do a search!

This attitude from long time members doesn't help new or old members for that matter.

The young guy has inherited 2 cars from his dad that passed away suddenly last year. he has a original Model A and a Chevy II, sbc, 4 speed car
Both have been sitting for years, that's about all I know. HRP

 

Yet for years I've been told young people are so good with computers, surely he can navigate this place and read?

Real help needs real questions. How long is a piece of string questions get not much useful, but sure open the door to humor.

Perhaps ask him why he has a carburetor question and what exactly does he want to know. Then we might start to get somewhere.

I used 2 Stromberg 97 on my flathead but the car was built in 1960, a reproduction would work well on the model A.

That x38 guy complains about everything.

 

Carburetion is a simple concept - mixing air and fuel at the correct ratio. It is, however, application specific. The size, demands and expectations of your engine will determine the setup you need, from comfortable daily driver to full race mode, and everything in between. As such, more info would make it a lot easier for people to offer relevent advice.

@HOTRODPRIMER , I think @X38 is right, more information is a must, but steady on boys, butting heads does nothing except keep the rest of us amused.

I have never heard it described quite like this, but I must say I agree.

 

For 3-2 I like Rochester,Dual 4,, I like edelbrock or Carter,, For closed hood,,Quadrajet and finally no hood,Holley or Edelbrock...Really like the Quadrajet but sometimes not practical for looks

 

When I fitted a Quadrajet 780cfm it stopped the 'dump-pause-cough-go' effect I had happening with a Holley 600.
Went harder and got way better milage as well.

 

My carb of choice is the Carter four barrel copy that they put on the old rotary engines.

 

If I can make a nitro hemi engine run on a ketchup bottle with gas in it you guys can surely figure this out . I know, i'm no help. sorry. Lippy

 

For a SBC: Quadrajet, hands down!
For the Model A: stock, or small Carter or Holley/Ford.
For the right, no BS answer...... Call carbking, a standup guy that KNOWS what he's talking about!
