Checking in, got my steering column rebuilt. Should be getting a full sub frame from a friend in Oregon pretty soon. Recently hit a honey hole and got a bunch of 16" tires for free! Awaiting my next paycheck so I can get everything to get my 5 cam bearing banger all buttoned up.

 

Checking in from Cheyoming. Not much going on here. Working on non banger cars. I have my 50 Chevy apart and working hard on a client's 48 Pontiac interior for my wife's upholstery shop.

There is a well known long time hobbyist who specializes in selling bolts/ fasteners of any sort that used in our hobby. With my memory leaving me, I cant yhink of his name right now. Maybe this will trigger someone else in chime in with name ?
Anyway, I have a bos with a lot of V8- 60 head studs. They are shorter than the studs for large flathead studs. Ive used them for this banger intake/exhaust purpose !
If you cant locate any, let me know. You also know that you need the CUPPED THICK special washers also, eh ? Might have those around also.

 

I got longer studs from Burt's in Denver. They had them in stock.

A little over year ago, I tore my rotator cuff muscle... completely. Also snapped my biceps tendon same time.
First doctor did a terrible attempted repair... failed !
Second and third “specialists” declared... we’ll schedule you for replace surgery tomo morning. These two sent me next door to their ‘associate’ who only does shoulder surgery !
Well, located a young surgen in B Hills.
He actually listened, view mri and spent time explaining that although he is the best... at this type surgery, that he recommends a different path. If that ddidnt work, tha he would still do the replacement !
Then he proceeded to instruct me to WORK at strengthening the OTHER groups of muscles... that surround the shoulder !
That was year or more ago. I did as he instructed.
Now, I couldnt do anything much with shoulder... for awhile/ months. Now I can do more than ever and getting stronger as I go.
Sure can’t pick and carry B block anymore... but can do work ! I am a happy guy that this doctor cared enough to guide me to success.
Pain eventually... mostly subsided... but at 77
I’m happy with what I have now. And it will improve.. if I do what’s necessary. Dont get nothing for nothing in this life, my opinion.
I belong to Simi A club. A member maybe 5 yrs my elder, had sam surgury about same time. We talk often enough, for me to be thankful I didn’t go for replacement right then also.
You have choices. Choices are good to have.
I just wish that Id made the choice, at my age, to not carry the two caskets... when in-laws passed , both in very short time ! I found that people make some choices with strong emotions at hand. Maybe wrong and maybe , in my shoulder case... right !

Also @J Ukrop, have you checked Dorman Products? They have a very broad line of double ended studs in all sizes.

 

Picked up some longer ones from Brattons i think they were actually head studs i really like that header wish i could measure up need to make one for my db roadster

 

I found longer studs locally at my O'reilly's Auto Parts. Search Dorman 7/16 studs. There are quite a few variations so you might need a little time to find what works for you. Note that some have coarse thread on both ends; you want coarse one end and fine on the other.[/QUOTE]

 

Red's Headers has the longer manifold stud kits also.

 

Picked up a Roof 101 head today off Craigslist. Came with a B block and some other parts. I don’t see a diamond on the block, there’s also no serial number. I believe I read that the replacement blocks didn’t have serial numbers? Also it has a flat spot cast into the left side of the block with threaded through holes. Any ideas?

Yanked the tired muffler, connected a Y-Pipe, and running with duals. Great sound.

 

Are there any grind marks where the serial would be? I know sometimes people grind them off.
Also, it could be an industrial combine engine originally

 

A Roof head on C/L? How lucky is that! Over here we only have late model junk.

 

A guy could wear this thing out taking it apart, inspecting it and putting it back together! We've got a bunch of events scheduled for 2021. But whether they come about is still "Up in the Air"!

 

Got some good rain last week, hopefully nothing got too wet! My Aunt in Cambria got landlocked!!

 

No grind marks where the serial numbers would be.

 

After doing some digging, I found this:

"A limited number of Model B engines were also built and assembled in East Windsor (Ford City), Ontario. Canadian-produced 1932-34 four cylinder 'engine' serial numbers were actually stamped on the top of the Model B or Model 46 flywheel housing above the starter, and the engine block pad was left unnumbered, similar to US Model B production. The prefix is preceded by a ☆, and the serial number is followed by a closing ☆ character, and reads from the rear of the engine."

Q: Aftermarket Bs ...were with a DIAMOND..no ?
I just got a B w/diamond, but with A bell. Only marking on blk , is several number s on rear side blk. What if anything do those tell you ?

 

Many diamond block castings were service blocks only, not complete tested engine assemblies, and thus they did not receive an engine serial number from Ford. In those cases, the as-cast pad was left blank as shown in the photo above.

Look on the passenger side, it should have a casting date on it with a letter and numbers. For example, something like D305. What is yours?
