If any one is into Coca-Cola advertisements for a diorama display for your models. I have a display thing and decal sheet advertising Coca-Cola from a 40 Ford sedan delivery kit. Also a bill board type ad , about 3 1/2" x 5". If any one can use it , PM me your address and I will get it headed your way. Thanks, Terry. I'm going to go through the little stock of wheels/tires I have before accepting your offer. I just wanted to acknowledge your post. I'll get back to you via PM.
I want to comment on the above mentioned link that S.E. Charles posted. For those of you interested there is a thread for "Survivors! (vintage builds)" that was started over ten years ago. It's 56 pages long and shows what modelers had and were building back in the day. I've only just started to go through it but I dig seeing how we worked on these as kids and, with luck, progressed through our building techniques. If you ever marvel at the pics that Ron Funkhouser posts of his old builds, you may get a kick from this site.
I was bored so I decided to practice chopping a top. Here’s the progress so far. I didn’t mean to make it a wedge chop, but I accidentally cut the B pillars too short and had to lean the top forward to make it work. Looks pretty good, and weirdly the Orange Crate windshield frame fits perfectly in this one by random coincidence. If it turns out decent, I can’t decide how to build it. My two ideas are: 1. Drag Rod, with parts from Stone Woods and Cook Willys 2. Late 70s street rod. Hey, don’t hate, that’s what I grew up with. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Did you buy your's yet? I'm talking about Round 2s '63 Chevy II wagon. They've finally dropped an old school kit on us and I'm happy. It really appears to be a bare bones kit so I was surprised that it was priced at $28.95. Surprised enough, in fact, that I walked out of the store. My wife went back and bought it for me, so I told her to hold onto it until by birthday in July. I hope Round 2 gets a good reaction to this kit and decides to dip into the oldies more often. Now, they need to work on a way to lower prices a bit and I've got ideas.
Curbside is just what I'm looking for. I want to have fun putting a kit together, I'm way past trying to detail the devil out of a model car, I don't need working suspensions, allen head license plate bolts or working turn signal lights on the dash. Fine for others, not for me. As far as the parts stash, of course I sold a big box of parts just before I started building again.
Heard a rumor that Hobby lobby is dropping the 40% daily coupon sometime in February so you may want to stock up in advance. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
That Boss A Bone kit must have been designed based on Dean Lowe's pickup.......it looks SO close to that!!
Hopefully it's not true. I use it for a lot.of supplies for models, paint etc. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I generally buy spur-of-the-moment and have never received any mailings from Hobby Lobby so they're not really on my mind. Besides, my local HL doesn't have too much of a selection, and I like to help keep the hobby shop in business. There aren't many good ones in existence, but the prices still bug me. You've got to pay to play, I guess.
Nice to see a chopped sedan today. I have been meaning to drop by and share some photos. I haven't been super active lately but do have some projects started and stalled. I am hoping change all that soon. Found this sketch in a box full of old drawings and sketches. It is the template I used to scratch built a custom Deuce sedan from left over 3 window coupe bodies. Posted these photos years ago but I'll re-post them. primed to check for gaps and low spots. I till have a way to go...
Another project is a replica of HAMB member @safari-wagon ('s) roadster, based on a new Revell kit. Some test fitting of parts. I'm not likely to use this hood. Considering scrats building one but this '29 Model A one is good for length. Plans are to modify this manifold and create a two pot version as on the 1:1 car I mixed up some acrylics to create a brown base coat and used a flat sable brush to aply the paint then sanded it down a bit but kept some texture to the surface. I then applied a mixture of flat brown, amber turn signal and flat clear coat then created a wash that I dabbed on with a paper towel and an old wash cloth to approximate the 'GM" old school red primer. I could have used the Rust-oleum but was concerned about etching the plastic.
I then scratch built (not me best work) the bare bones inner door panels. Upon realising I had made a terrible mistake by leaving the kit's parts placement reliefs intact, I filled them in as the 1:1 car has Pontiac taillights setting outboard a bit more.
i think the curse is remembering when the kits (the Nova specifically) listed for $2.00 and had an engine, or two, a trailer, overhead hoist, and could be built stock, custom, or service. decals for all versions, something from Bud the Kat (or celebrity of the year) to read in addition to the instruction sheet where all the parts were named so a kid could actually learn something. did i forget the sheet of fuzzy vinyl for upholstery, a piece of sandpaper and tube of (usually hardened) body filler, bongos, stuffed dog for the rear package shelf , luggage rack and . . . . . . .
Are you referring to the Craftsman Series of kits by AMT?????..... Yep! I remember those prices... $1.87 + tax from Kressgi's..
Looks like some cool builds going on... I really like the scratch built cars , I have never been able to build one box stock. Alot of times , most all the time,I will get an idea on a build and thats all it takes and I'm digging through my kits and boxes of parts to come up with the stuff I need and roughly assemble, mock up, what I had envisioned.....before I forget. Usually then they get boxed up when I get another idea and set aside ....then there in rotation with all the others before them, when they make there way around I then will do some more to them and move on..... This resent ebay purchase was going to become a 39 Ford 4dr convert....well that didn't happen...and this did. Sent from my SM-T387V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
There's going to be more on this one ....sometimes I come up with a story line on the history or back ground on of a build , it helps in lining up parts and explains some of my thinking as to what the hell is it...this one , the 39 ford ?.., didn't come to me until after I did the body modifications....then as I am looking at it and thinking what could of it been used for ....it hit me ...a story of its history.?..and its a good one...its going to be in two parts. Heres a preview of the second part. Sent from my SM-T387V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
