This one has always been a favorite of mine,can't believe it's going on five years since it's been finished

 

So, I must admit my ignorance on the subject. But I thought the "tri-five" would be the '57, '58, and '59. As they were all based on the new for '57 Ford. Like the '55, '56 & '57 Chev. The '57 Ford was the longer lower wider, a departure from the narrower previous cars of GM and Ford.

 

Now you are just messing with us tri 5 Chevy guys! Lol
So 57,58,59 are the same platform?

I've always had a soft spot for the '58s....

 

Yes, the '57 Ford was an all new platform, and the beginning of the deep offset 9" rear end. The '58 shares much of the same body dimensions etc, hoods are interchangeable.

'58 was the introduction of the FE as an option (332-352) and the recirculating ball steering box. And if course Quad headlights....like them or not.

The '59 (what I have) is basically a '58 with a different body.

1960 is again all new platform.

I took it last summer, and the lighting came out just right!

This is another one I took. My interior was not yet complete.

 

I thought tri-five Fords were 52-54...

 

Nothing I ever shoot at night ever looks that cool! I dig the what looks like green interior.

I learned something new today tri5 Fords are not 55-57 like Chevy. Tri5 Ford means 57-59!

Traded my 29 roadster 3 weeks ago.
272 Ford O Matic 6 volt with drums originally all black built in Mahwah NJ 12/31/55

 

I didnt know that was allowed in here! Trading a roadster for a late 50s cruiser!

I put power to my stock drums with an aftermarket kit that uses a late 70s Ford dual master. I figured if I didnt like how it stopped I'd buy the front disk kit or use Granada spindles and OEM front disk setup.

What I found is that the drums stop the car remarkably well. I replaced every brake component accept the Tee on the rear end and the drums themselves. Just turned them on a lathe. Figured I wasnt out much rebuilding the front drums even if I was going to toss them.

I converted to a 90amp Bosch alternator from 1980 in my VW collection of parts. Bosch does make the best alternators.....sorry guys. Needed it for the electric radiator fans. I had a single pusher this summer but an building a dual puller setup for twin 10" Spals.

Here is some of the green interior. Only thing I didnt do myself was the upholstery on the front seat. I used a 70s GM green which was identical to the '59 only Ford vinyl, the white is NOS I found on Ebay, and the green in the center is reproduction and was stupid expensive.


Painted everything inside dont yet have all the interior metal installed.

 

Can’t imagine a 55 being assembled in December of 55. The 56’s are out in late October and the plants shut down at the end of September to do the change over. I’m thinking 54.....

Yeah probably, but I'm not sure as the guys I knew that worked there at the time are no longer with us. Mahwah was a huge assembly plant, Fords largest when it closed.

Since originally it was all black with blue and light blue interior cloth (not a combo I would pick) no options except the slush box and its production number is 164 (car of the day) and according to the serial number it is the 20,601 one assembled.

Ford made 1,435,002 55's and of that 76,698 were 2 door sedans. The 55 and 56 are pretty much identical mechanically so its possible that there was still one line running to use up the 55 parts.

I'm not sure how ford assigned Serial numbers to the plants, and I think that info was lost in the fire and Google hasn't helped so far, so it's either fairly early or really late.

Either way it's pretty scary to think it was made on New Years Eve.

I was referring to the 1955 thru 1957 Fords ( tri as in 3 years ), I didn't think that it would be that confusing since I posted pictures of some of the ones that I like. Whether you consider the term to mean 1952 thru 1954 ( which I also like ) or 1957 thru 1959 ( I like these too ) is irrelevant, I was asking about 1955, 1956 & 1957. I hope that this clarifies things, sorry that that confused some of you!

 

Maybe just for fun we can skip every other year like 53-55-57?
Just kidding. As a Chevy guy I know why the term Tri5 is used for 55-57 Chevys. With Fords I always assumed they were the same platform. Then when I asked some Ford guys I got a couple of different answers (not on the H.A.M.B.) it led me to believe even the Ford guys didn’t know if they were different or the same. Then I found out on the Hamb that 57 is more like 58 and 59 which really threw my Chevy brain for a loop. Lol
All is well now so we can carry on.
But with my new found Ford knowledge I just might have to pull someone’s card out in public if I hear the term TRI5 applied to 55-57 Ford.
