I have a speed demon built from a 40 banjo, built by Wilson welding. Last I knew he quit making them.

Jim Frankland did, went on to build a company around it.

My friend Mike Moore, here in Oregon builds a very nice one, but only a few per year. He did a thread showing all it takes to do it correctly. It's a difficult task, adding the lower shaft, and keeping it parallel. Over the years, there were many who built them, like Bart, Frankland, Parham. Here is what a Bart looks like. 2012-07-03 170107.jpg 2012-07-03 185112.jpg

  14. We built one in Ag Shop when I was in high school. It was for something that Tom Rayovitch was building, a dune rod I think. It was chain drive instead of gear drive. Worked like a Champ. :D

The guy I bought mine from thought it was a Parham. I can’t confirm that. Not downing who built it but, a few of the welds don’t look that good. I don’t think it was ever run so things might not line up correctly.........Mark

  16. @Kevin Lee has or had an early fabricated quicky. I wanted/want it real bad. LOL
I think that at one point the conjecture was that it was made locally.

Parham rears were done by Bud Parham in Portland,Or. He built a total of 50 units, and the welding was nice, as he was a perfectionist ! His roadster pickup was in Hot Rod. 2012-09-07 083931.jpg 2012-09-07 183012.jpg

I have one. I always thought it was an early Franklin, but now I’m not sure.

I know. I like how they used the torque tube in the construction instead of just tubing. It's gonna take some work to get it usable though. The shaft is locked up, the pinion support is cracked, and of course it's missing some parts.

I wonder if a two speed rear out of an older 1.5 ton truck could be downsized? My dads ‘46 Chevy had a manual one, then his ‘54? 1/2 cab over Ford (bigger truck) had an electric one.

Just thought I’d toss that out for thoughts

Kato, any more pics of the internals? Any measurements, or the bearings and sources for shaft?
