I have purchased Dan Iandola’s lakester from Nic Montoya in SanDiego. It is in Maryland now and I am making plans for it’s future. I plan on taking it to TROG this October and am looking into if I could run it at Bonneville. Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
I did not get the log book. I spoke with Patric Gary last night, who was working on the car with Dan when he passed. He told me that they had updated the cage at some point so that a larger person could exit it faster in preparation to run again.. I need to get it in and remove the aluminum and get it looked at. My understanding is that it was last run around 1980.
Nice to know the car is still around, Dan was a big part of the 4Banger part of the hobby. How fast did he have it? Would a new chassis be the safe and quick way to go? Look forward to updates. Bob
That lakester was for sale at the big three about three years ago. At that time I was with several guys that ran lakesters and their opinion was that it would not pass tech for SCTA competition without redoing the cage. I believe one of them said the tubing wall was too thin for the new rules. I don't know what the Flathead banger record is but the overhead cam banger record is pass 200 MPH.
