Projects 1936 Ford Ute custom

I know this puppies rare but you're going to do a customization...so I'm curious if you may have considered hinging those side shelves on the box to close inward to stream line the body...you could even fab a center snap cover or solid center piece to create a tonneau style box cover...just thinking out loud and 2 years ahead of schedule...Happy New Year Beater...

Any idea when this came into the US?

 

They will shrink a bit, have custom brackets made, and become teak. Think ChrisCraft boat meets utilitarian ute.

I hate to lose the flavor of the ute to the point if feels like a Phaeton or roofless slant back. There will be a definite stockish tone to the customization.

 

Thankfully I am way less than that in to this. Plus it only cost me $120 in diesel to go get it.

 

Remember, those are $AUD so the real price would be 75% in your money, less the dreamer asking price factor.
I only posted this out of general interest. This thread made me think, 'I wonder if any are for sale?'

I think Id leave the wheelbase the same, but take a slice out of the body just behind the cockpit, and side the cab back until the front edge of the door lines up with the front of the running board. Then add whatever the removed amount was on to the back of the hood.

 

Utes of those eras are plain sexy, in my mind need very little to sweeten them up.

No fancy photoshop here. Living in a camper has me limited on what supplies I have. A black and white printer and bandaids are best I got. Had to get some of the ideas out of my head though. Very rough but it will get refined as it gets closer want to try to keep as many Ute novelties as I can I want to keep the side Mount spare, albeit with a cover like a coupe reshaped front wheel openings to still show a bit of tire with a lowered stance and many other little things

 

Current shop and living situation say this may be awhile yet. My wife is hoping sooner than later though.

 

You know how it is, the dreamer ask price. Sale price is another number altogether.

Yessir. Heated floor is the only way to fly.

 

A bit of a scribble based on my scissors/bandaid job. Front fender may need to shrink and have the running board seam land at the door line measured out the real car vs cut up version and it was a 4” stretch up front

 

Little bit of spit shine and she will be as good as new!

 

Maybe a little slant back influence with a spare recessed a bit in to the tailgate.

Stunning comes to mind...I vote no slant and the wooden sides and box are just the functional aspect of this Custom Cruiser but also given a grace like no other pickup... @themoose....dayuum awesome...

 

Creeping closer to building cars again. What are you Australian and European guys using to upgrade the RHD steering box on these? The box is seized on this Ute so may as well upgrade. Also, Does anyone have a pair of 38 Studebaker taillights?

 

if you are planning to convert it to lhd, and they are 37 rhd spindles
will you sell them?

They are 36 RHD and I plan on keeping it RHD. Just wondering what a good upgrade steering box would be before I rebuild this one.

 

Generally one of these. Commonly called the HQ Holden box, it came in HQ, HJ, HX, HZ and WB model sedans, wagons etc. Basically a RHD Saginaw 525.

 

I see what you mean about the length... I'd leave the body as is...put the o/g frame, front fenders, and hood aside and modify a second set to gain the 4"s
