Trying to clean up this Chevy 1963 aluminum powerglide to read the numbers it's been sitting outside for years and it shows can't even find the numbers it's so bad. I usually use white wall cleaner to clean everything. What's a good cleaner to use?
Oil eater works great but lately I have been using the yellow cleaner from Dollar tree. for a lot of stuff. If it is that bad, scrape the heavy stuff off with a putty knife before using anything to wash it. A search found this. How to Identify a Powerglide Transmission (itstillruns.com)
It's the 63 Chevy super sport powerglide that the shifter bolts on the tail shaft. Nova, corvette, impala used them 2 different tailshafts 9&11 inch. I'm just trying to make sure I got the correct one before I pay to have it rebuilt.
Hotsy pressure washers has a detergent for aluminum called "aluminum brightner" that works great! You can get it in 1 gallon and 5 gallon containers and is concentrated. It cleans grease & grime off aluminum and gives it a slight "etch" not to drastic though.
A/C coil cleaner , make sure to rinse well ! Same with muriatic acid , works great ,just rinse well .
Thanks for everyones help. I used oven cleaner I had leftover from prior projects. Letting it sit overnight.
