Trying to clean up this Chevy 1963 aluminum powerglide to read the numbers it's been sitting outside for years and it shows can't even find the numbers it's so bad. I usually use white wall cleaner to clean everything. What's a good cleaner to use?

Steel wool (00) is a quick way to remove the white scale oxidation that forms on aluminum.

What are your plans for it? If you are rebuilding it the numbers won't make any difference.

Dollar store has oven cleaner but better check if it's ok to use on aluminum.

A picture of what your issue is would help. Ie covered in oil and dirt, oxidized, etc.

It's the 63 Chevy super sport powerglide that the shifter bolts on the tail shaft. Nova, corvette, impala used them 2 different tailshafts 9&11 inch. I'm just trying to make sure I got the correct one before I pay to have it rebuilt.

  17. Fine wire wheel should clean that off to get to the info you need.

  18. Hotsy pressure washers has a detergent for aluminum called "aluminum brightner" that works great! You can get it in 1 gallon and 5 gallon containers and is concentrated. It cleans grease & grime off aluminum and gives it a slight "etch" not to drastic though.

Ifyou are going to have it rebuilt the shop should have a way to clean that up real nicely.
